I never come here, I just need your help. Not that /h/ is specifically equipped for this job, but Ive got a bit of your heritage on disk.

I was rummaging through a bunch of my dad's old CD's looking for a XP install disk and I found pic related. Its only about 200mb, but its heavily compressed using some weird japano program. Ive managed to get it open and its got like 80 doujins and a few H-games, as well as what looks like a 1988 prototype of the entire slave-trainer genre. My research has revealed this all came from a bbs that made their own file formats including .mat, .maki, and .q4 that all run in some application called GV that I cant run on my machine . If anyone is a big enough oldfag to know how to make any of this work please post ITT.

Ill bump with choice/funny content.

You should ask the jay; the posters on porn boards probably won't be much help.

Well I'm interested

Bump

Holy shit, OP.

Man, this is PC98 age stuff. I barely remember any of it. This was back when I had a computer with Win95 that could run a file to view these files. Never file systems cannot even use these old file readers.
>>
Have you tried IrfanView?

That's the only program I could think of off the top of my head.

It's all coming back to me.

I used a program named SUSIE. This program required a set of plugins in order to read other file types. It miraculously still works with newer OS.

https://www.digitalpad.co.jp/~takechin/download.html

Susie32 ver0.47b (02/10/20)

Plugins: Plug-in package ver0.08
(JPEG/GIF/TIFF/Pi/PIC/Pic2/XLD4/MAG/PICT/
LHA/Zip)

In the image I attached is how it works:

- Extract main program in a folder
- Extract plugins in same folder
- RUn program
- A desktop icon with the face of "Susie" will appear
- To open a file, click on ファイル->聞く

Damn. I feel old.

I dont have anything like that, Ive got 3 competing standards each with their own launcher
>>4109879
the newest stuff on here is from 92
>>
>>4109812
rip it and make an iso so I can work on it myself
easier than running you through it

or just burn it or whatever. just upload it
>>
Try running Windows 98 in a VM and see if the shit will run. Boot it in DOS mode and try running it like that too.
>>
>>4109812

Does it need to be run from japanese locale? Do you have applocale?
>>
>>4110811
It is not the locale. Seems like he needs a x86 age computer.

You should tell him he's got shit taste then hand him bible black.
>>
OP, if you come back, just make an image of the CD so everyone can work on it instead of only you.
>>
>>4110846
That would still read just fine. 32-bit systems are x86, and mainstream 64-bit systems are fully backwards compatible as they use the x86-64 instruction set.

If I had to guess, it's probably for an obsolete platform like the PC ENGINE CD (TurboGrafx-CD) or the PC-98. An emulator might be able to read an image of the disk.

>mainstream 64-bit systems are fully backwards compatible as they use the x86-64 instruction set.

That's not the only hurdle. If it tries to use APIs or access libraries that are no longer provided under your modern OS, it won't work even if the code is architecture-compatible.

Try running an old 16bit Windows app directly under 64bit Windows sometime.

Virtual machines come in handy for this sort of thing, since you can easily run old OSes that way.

Seconding this. Make an ISO and post it somewhere so we can take a look and help you out.

OP, you still there? I'm really interested in this sort of stuff, but I can't help you if I don't have a way test with what I have.

Goddammit OP, come back already!
I want to know what lurks behind your treasure, even if it is some PC-98 stuff.

I'm gonna dump the contents of the CD and put it up on DropBox. It's got some executables and stuff in there, but more importantly a directory full of early 90s hentai.
