I sometimes add sound to SFM animations in flash, so I've been encoding into flash-compliant .flv files using something called "SUPER Converter". Shitty name, but it's easy to use and gives decent results.
The problem I forsee you having with whatever flash files you want to convert is sound; most jap projects do not encode the sound directly into the video files (for whatever reason), so either you have to edit and encode the audio files in a video editing suite of your choice, or go forego audio.

I think SFM is a nice beginner tool just like MMD if you have no idea what you're doing and need premade stuff, but they're not made for relatively ambitious projects. I think a team like StudioFOW should move on to some more complex programs... unless they're satisfied with whatever attention/cash they're getting and happy to hide behind the limitations of SFM ("it's SFM what kind of quality did you expect?"). There's a world of difference between what you can do with basically very similar models in SFM and in Maya once converted. And obviously, it would require much more time, which may not be a bad thing to be honest. Here's an example of someone using Maya and After Effects.

I wouldn't mind if Studio Fow decided to use a more advanced engine. But honestly, I'm perfectly fine with the quality of the work they've put out so far. And it's been getting better. It'll never be as awesome as some of the really advanced stuff out there, but if that means we get 3 big move projects a year and a bunch of smaller raffles each month... I'll take it. Much better than one movie a year, at best. If you don't like SFM projects, you don't have to watch it. But from what I understand, it's the tool that most of the people on their team is comfortable with. It could be a few years before we get a new major project if they decided to switch programs... and a few more before they're even at the standard they're at now. Not really worth it in my opinion.
I'm not really that informed on using these types of programs though. Perhaps it's not that hard to learn new programs if you already have a ton of experience in SFM. But from what I've seen in the Valve tutorial, it seems like a proprietary engine with a very specific way of doing things not really found in other programs.
Maybe they could hire or set aside a small team to work with a new tool and eventually put more resources into that team if it goes well and the content is looking good?

It's fairly simple: they basically have milked what's possible to do in SFM and hence, their level of quality will not improve significantly. Maybe a few details will be better but that's it, unless SFM Reborn actually brings ground-breaking (relatively speaking and compared to "original" SFM) and that they actually switch to it. SFM (and MMD) are beginner oriented programs and hence, are very limited in what they can do.
I personally think that past some point, one should aim to be better even if there's an important learning curve. Some are satisfied with things staying the way they are; I'm not.

I'm not a 3D artist but from what I can see, Blender is basically the REAPER (the DAW) of 3D programs. Best comparison I can think of. It's cheap or outright free, you can do pretty good things with it, and you won't find it in any big name studio who tend to stay faithful to bigger name companies: namely Autodesk in 3D, and Avid or Steinberg for DAWs. Tho' it's changing a bit with REAPER considering how flexible and complete it is without ripping your wallet a new asshole; can't comment on Blender's situation however.

Let's try a levelheaded approach.
SFM has limitations, glaring limitations. Perhaps you notice it immediately or maybe it dawns on you after your nth gif, but you'll pick up on them eventually.
Just as animations in MMD are (generally speaking) lacking, so too are animations in SFM.
So this self proclaimed studio FOW comes around and has a passion and flair for utilising SFM. Production quality is of course higher than most individual gifs and voice acting is a neat addition. They really put a lot of effort in.
However, SFM still has limitations. This is mostly obfuscated by camera work or VFX but inevitably you begin to notice clipping, distortion and a jarring lack of proper fluid sim amongst others. This is because at the end of the day SFM is a hobbyist tool, it's not designed to be used for high end 3D animation.

It's a cheap trick sure, but highly effective.
Studios like Pixar use highly complex geometry and even more complex rendering with innumerable light rays bouncing all over the place. It results in an appealing aesthetic because the models are designed to benefit from this (and the light modelling actually attempts to simulate real light), just as the model in that GIF (Seismic''s Liru) benefits from the shader.
So it boils down to how complex your geometry is + the style you adopt.

Anyway, if you were >>4109234, there's no best program for porn specifically. You could try to search for the best program for animation overall and even then you'd have dozen of threads, forum posts and pro studios saying one thing and its contrary. Get one (usually Blender/Max/Maya) and stick with it. Also, learn how to draw, it will save you countless time to be able to draw with good proportions and depth/volume what you want to do in 3D. You don't need to be an incredible artist, but you need to be able to draw from every angle.

That said, doing a convincing 3D works that looks like 2D (and could be mistaken for 2D) isn't that simple. Still easier than realistic 3D without falling into the uncanny valley for sure, but convincing cell-shading isn't that easy. That's why there's a world of difference between Naruto SUNS or Guilty Gear Xrd in terms of graphical fidelity and... basically any recent Dragon Ball vidya.
For GGXrd, ArcSys "had to" abandon 2D sprites (doing HD sprites is incredibly time consuming and difficult) in favour of 3D. They then attempted to "kill everything 3D": in other words, make their work as close to 2D animation as possible. It works pretty well considering it's a video game on a console and hence, not totally under their control and with a given set of resources. Here's their process.

Illusion does work on this and pushes the polys like nobody's business, this looks like PS2 era with heavy reliance on smooth rendering. It's not at all something I'd expect out of prerender and definitely relying entirely on a ramp/toon shader.
Objectively speaking it has been designed to look anime-ish, not gain points in fidelity.
