I'm new to video editing and want to replicate this style on the two characters in the webm.

Does anyone know what the artstyle is called or know any techniques to achieve it? I'm fairly competent with photoshop but I'm currently learning how to use sony vegas pro for a project I have in mind involving this.

That CG was done by rendering software that had heavy light/shadows to create severe shadows on the characters. Then the light part is made transparent so the shadows are what's left.

If you're trying to do this (shittily) with video, theoretically this should work.

I would shoot black-and-white in low-key lighting (so, bright keylight) on a well-lit background (so you can distinguish shadows on the subject from background). That will create figures with sharp contrast (see pic, but light the background so subject's shadows don't bleed to background) Then increase threshold in post under 'levels' or something so you just get white/black, then key out the white.

Otherwise you can learn how to do CG or animate.
