How can a kaleidoscope effect similar to Flume's artwork be achieved?
It's a pretty simple two-step process, OP. First you open the image in Photoshop - none of that Paint.NET shit here, it has to be Photoshop. Then, you take your keyboard and jam the corner of it into your eye socket until you get the desired effect.
Keep trying, it might take a while.

In retrospect, what makes the original design work is having a light figure on a black background. Should have looked for something similar but I couldn't be arsed.
Anyway, this is just cropping, flipping horizontal, scaling, and rotating, with a keen eye for perfect alignment.

Is only about a dozen or so copies, it was probably just done by hand... Rotating and scaling. What makes this image so cool and striking is the gradient map, if that was going to be your next question. It's an adjustment layer in PS and its like the fastest lane go dope shit
Adobe After Effects do this easily. Animation also.

You're absolutely right. It's exactly slit-scanning.
However, I don't know if they used a slit-scan camera or just shot everything in 60fps, interpolated that in AE and applied the slitscan effects.
