Quoting for interest

Ok, the Redmi 3 Pro battery is fucking insane. 5 hours SOT with music, games and social media and I still have 40% left back home.

Chinks did black magic with this thing. It does come with a very agressive greenify/amplify-like battery profile activated out of the box that limits apps connecting and getting location when the phone is asleep to a bare minimum to be functional but even adding the most important ones to the whitelist, the impact to battery life is minimal.

I had wifi, GPS, 4G and bluetooth with a Pebble Time on at all times, so no cheating with plane mode either.

Huawei P9 for ~500 €. Should I buy it?

Love the design, the specs and the build quality. Only thing I'm worried about is the UI, coming from a Xperia Z.

Or should I just wait for the Xperia X series to come out and hope that the camera won't be a piece of shit like the last few Sony flagships? Also don't like that they shrunk the screen size from 5.2" to 5".

Maybe other suggestions?

Proud owner of xiaomi redmi 3 here. Off all the chink shit smartphones that I've bought (few of them since I've decided to upgrade from Sony Ericsson K530i), it's the best one that I've had. Hell it's about as nice as my iphone 5 while being, what? 5 times cheaper?

Still, it's not without fault tho.

Hey guys, I currently have an LG G3 and am trying to find a new phone because the headphone jack is fucked up on G3's if you don't use headphones with a microphone in it. It has other problems but the main thing is I want a phone that has equivalent specs or better. I was looking at the G5 but I'm sure there are better phones out there.

USA
AT&T

Wanted features:

Excellent Camera
4k
Longer battery life than G3

Budget:

No budget

Size:

Doesn't matter, of course I'd prefer for it to fit in my pocket.

>Post a mini-review of your phone
How come no one does this? I'm bored and have nothing else to do so I'll do it anyway.

I have a Moto X Pure Edition and overall I think it's a really good phone, especially if you can get it for like $350 or under.
The 5.7" screen takes some adjusting to, but now that I'm used to it I don't think I can ever get a phone with a screen less than 5.5". Especially after the latest google keyboard update it has become much easier to use with one hand.

The screen is 1440x2560 and it has a decently high ppi, so the display is pretty. Only problem with the display is that it is not an amoled screen, so blacks pixels still light up.
The moto features are pretty god tier, but I really only use moto display and moto actions.
Moto display works if you wave your hand over it, or if it detects any motion. It only shows the first line or so of any notifications and unfortunately it isn't open source so that can't really be modified at all. I still prefer that to ambient display though.
The biggest issue with moto display is that all previous moto x models had amoled screens, so that the moto display actually looked black. On the Pure the entire screen lights up black so it kind of reduces the usefulness.
The double twist for camera works really well and I use it a lot, but the double shake for flashlight is pretty spotty and I have that turned off.

The camera is really good in good lighting, but because of not having any ois the pictures come out a little blurry if your hands aren't very steady.
Low light pictures are pretty average.

Software support started really good but I think motorola kind of dropped the ball on it. I'm only on the February 1st security patch, and there is no news about any more. Thanks to a pretty active developer scene though the phone will probably stay up to date on software for at least another 2-3 years.
>>
>>54650623
The G3 is still a pretty nice phone so I think you should hold on to it until around october when the new nexus devices come out.
The high end one should definitely have a 4k screen, and battery on nexus phones has always been pretty nice. Combine that with all the battery tweaks you can do after rooting and you should easily get through a day of heavy use.

Anyone tried glass screen protectors? Did it work as intended?

Hard to believe a 0.2 mm thick piece of glass will protect a screen from shattering desu
>>
>>54651036
I have a tempered glass screen protector and it isn't really for preventing the screen from cracking. It serves the same purpose as a regular plastic screen protector, but it does the job better.
If you want something that will protect the screen from shattering then get a case.

IT'S ABOUT FUCKING TIME.
It's been a hard 4 months. Having the amazon store page as my home page, checking it every day for the price to drop.
It's finally dipped into the $400 range. There's a number 4 in that price. I'm buying it.
I'm crying.
>>
>>54649071
>>Lumia smartphones are coming to an end, Microsoft hints

OK, what major company makes a fast $30 Android phone now?
>>
Just picked up the Z5, so will give my thoughts.

Design is good, feels nice and solid in the hand, rear glass isn't a fingerprint magnet like the previous Z series entries. Only a single flap this time for the SIM/SD cards is a plus, and still maintains the IP68 for water.

5.2" screen is a perfect size imo, only 1080p but colours are good for an LCD, also supports the double-tap to wake like motorolas/LGs/HTCs which I don't think I could live without.

Phone gets a little warm under heavy use (Games/multiple downloads etc) due to the SD810, but not uncomfortably so, at least for me. Interface is quite zippy due to the power under the hood, very close to stock Android. Most of the Sony apps can be uninstalled/disabled, but are fairly unintrusive.

Haven't used the camera as much as I'd like, but coming from an HTC M8, it's much much better performing. I also like the slightly unusual finger print sensor placement, though this won't be to everyone's tastes.

Very pleased overall.
>>

Hallllo!
I have some chink phone questions:
1. Can one Install a clean stock version of Android on a particular Chinese smartphone, Instead the original version it came with?

2. If it's possible, will it have some issues with reading hardware or not supporting certain features?

Thanks, JB.

sony xperia z5 vs nexus 6p??

i'm afraid sony's design and shape are good enough for me to overlook some flaws. as it should be.
>>
>>54654598
I had one (Zenfone 2 4/64GB), it was pretty terrible. I was used to stock Android though, so Asus' bloated skin was a bit of a shock. I used Titanium Backup to disable 70+ apps, was a pain to re-enable them on every update and then disable again but I made a script that did it for me.

There's a lot of posts on the Zenfone 2 subreddit about people who simply plugged their phone into their computer to transfer files and then it suddenly died and wouldn't turn on. Asus' warranty service also leaves much to be desired.

Might be okay if you unlock the bootloader (voiding your warranty, which you will likely need) and flashing CM. I didn't like the actual design of the phone either, so I was happy to sell it. The guy I sold it to really likes it though.

I want around a 4-5" screen, 5.2" max; above average camera, something that'll work in the US for $200 or less. Is this possible? Don't mind buying used as long as it isn't prone to imminent failure (like bootloop). The redmi 3 pro interests me but supposedly the camera is crap.

i'm running a one here as well. what's your issue with battery life? the only way i can deplete my phones battery before the day ends is if i'm playing some shitty 3d phone game for hours on end. so long as the screen is off, i stream music to a bluetooth speaker, browse the internet for hours, text, all other normal phone shit and have at least 15% by the time i get home.

i'm also running the 5.1 sultan rom. that may also help.

Monthly updates for two years, not until your OEM gets bored of your phone.

Unlocking bootloader and rooting without voiding your warranty.

Excellent dev support with Xposed, custom ROMs after support ends. Vanilla Android instead of a disgusting and bloated skin.

"Nexus shills"? More like Nexus master race.
>>
>>54658919
you can get used to 5.5 pretty easy. i felt the same way but after a few days at 5.5 it was fine. and using 5" felt a little constrained.

though i would say my upper limit is 5.5. larger just gets kinda clunky/unweildy for something i want to easily put in my pocket.

I also updated review scores for about 35 phones.

There is sure to be some information that is still out of date so please let me know if you see something that requires updating/adding/removing.

There are still many entries that have N/A listed because the reviewing site hadn't scored it. When I sort from greatest to least score, it puts the N/A entries before the numbered entries.
>quick edit

okay, so I just removed N/A from those fields and now it's sorting correctly. I might keep it like this. Though the biggest problem is many new phones that haven't gotten reviewed yet get pushed to the bottom.

Maybe if I sorted by release date, then by score? does no one mind not having alphabetical sort?

I might as well post this to /sqt/, but I found this thread first. Here goes.

I've only ever used Galaxy S series as my smartphones, because I didn't use to care about anything other than a phone having Android and being the most popular (for re-sale value, most support, etc.).
Now I'm getting pretty tired of TouchWiz, mostly because installing xposed on anything over 4.4.2 is a pain in the butt. I'd like to use newer Androids but customizability is a must for me.

So now I'm looking for a pure, 100% stock android phone.
Something that hasn't been modified in any way by Samsung or any other manufacturer.

What are my options? I could only find the Nexus series, myself.
I'd still like to go with the most popular choice (statistically, so sources would be nice).

The k4000 pro seems to have solid build quality according to YouTube videos.

Gave my iphone 6s to a parent as a gift when I got my Nexus 6p. The 6p is just too big for me to enjoy daily usage and it hangs out of my pockets in shorts.

What smaller phone could I get for cheap, I love watching videos on the 6p and it has tons of uses but it's just too big for my everyday phone.

It's nice but 1gb ram and a 1.3GHz quad-core will run like shit but for 40$ you can't complain.
