I went to pc world today and tried out Windows 10 on a store computer. Apart from the UI being ugly and presumably designed for Americans with fat fingers, I noticed no real difference between 10 and 7. Certainly nothing to make upgrading worthwhile. Is Windows 10 basically just snake oil?

Virtual desktops
Sticky corners for multimon
Improved window snapping
Per monitor taskbar
Improved Win+Tab view
Built-in ISO mounting
Built-in print to PDF
Improved command prompt
Uninstall from Start menu

There's other improvements for normies like more accessible file search query construction (using the ribbon), action center for all your Facebook and Twitter notifications, and of course UWP apps (much loathed by /g/, but a great platform for its target audience).

And then there are some more technical features where YMMV like UEFI secure boot, faster boot times, and compressed memory.

UEFI secure boot is literally cancer.

Good thing it's optional then.

Windows 10 boots disgustingly fast for me

For now. Just wait 'till Microsoft prohibits installation on MoBos that can disable secure boot. All manufacturers will capitulate immediately to hold market share.

Who cares unless you run a toy distro that can't into secure boot.

>UEFI secure boot is literally cancer.

the only successful anti-rootkit tech in history is cancer?

UEFI is saving lives and livelihoods.

UEFI is only there to compromise your BIOS not to protect it. You know that.
