If you knew anything about Microsoft's track record you wouldn't ask this question. Let me guess, you just decided to get a Windows phone one day and thought "hey this isn't so bad, why doesn't anyone else use it?". The reason is that we aren't 12 and we ate familiar with Microsoft's MO.

Microsoft has a shitty anticompetitive attitude where they ruin all their good products by forcing them to be reliant on their shitty "big name" products.
For instance, Cortana is by far the coolest digital assistant but her searches are limited to Bing only. Look at all of Microsoft's cool shit and look how some corporate dickhead said "Don't forget to make it only work with our other products!"
I, too, think it is pretty gud. I never used it, but if you're technically inclined the app situation is a real problem. My buddy has one and it's missing an omemo client and such.
That said, I run linux on my pc, why would I want microshit on my phone when I have a sufficiently open os?

Too little too late. I love the OS, absolutely love it. But MS doesn't seem to care, and developers don't. After using Windows Phone since WP7 literally first came out (starting with the HTC Arrive and ending with the Lumia 1520) I finally jumped ship to iOS.
God the UI makes me want to punch a baby, but I have every app I ever wanted but couldn't have on Windows Phone.

I have a Lumia 640 and it does everything I need. Plus I only need to charge the battery once per week.
I only use my phone to make calls and send messages though. Every now and then I use it as a navigation system or to look something up real quick or to read the news.
Even the 4chan apps for Windows Phone are pretty cool.

how'd you get it?
I had an HTC Trophy 7, then a HTC 8x, then a Nokia Lumia 822, then a Nokia Lumia 635. I really, really, really liked it. but at the end I had to use an android phone for three weeks while I was out of the country and it was just so much more usable in terms of apps and efficiency. and now win 10 mobile is a shitty rip-off of android and iphone without any of its former benefits.

every little functionality has now to be achieved by a separate dedicated 3rd party application instead of a system setting or a website.
The same reason why BB10 is dead. And any other mobile OS will have huge problems.
Which is kinda strange, if you consider how most people use their computers - the only program they ever use is the browser (and sometimes MS Office), they don't use any specialised programs, instead opting to use websites with similar functionality. Yet on mobile phones, where using the web intefaca would actually make sense, they refuse to use the browser and instead demand a separate application for their twitters, facebooks and pretty much every single website they visit.
