Budget Phone: Moto /g/, One+X (Doesn't work in the US quite yet)

/g/ approved flagship: LG V10
>>
Reposting here, but I'm pretty convinced I will get a Note 4. Kinda concerned cause it'll be the N910C, which has fewer ROMs and support. Is TouchWiz too unbearable? Any other phones suggestions?

>Need a new phone, my Xperia Z1 has decided that it will not be working anymore (thanks, non-removable battery)
>Points of most relevance to me are (in order): battery life, removable battery, custom ROMs availability, enough power to get through minor multitasking without hiccups, screen size, durability.

>So tell me, /g/, should I get a:

>Galaxy Note 4:
>My current choice: big screen + pen so I can scribble on it to death, not to mention battery is removable and allows for microSD. Battery life seems rather good and everything else is fine.
>Possible drawbacks are the crappy TouchWiz and it not being the Snapdragon version but the Exynos processor version, not sure how much crappier that would make it.

>LG G4:
>Smaller screen than the Note 4, but not that important. Newer phone, so there's also that. Removable battery, slightly less than Note 4's, microSD. Overall pretty good phone, but not sure what else would draw me to it. Not having the S Pen takes away functionality that could be useful to me. That's why I'm here, to see if any of you folks can give me some better reasons to opt for this phone over the Note 4.
>(Don't have the V10 available in my bullshit country, so not an option.)

>Samsung S6:
Nah not getting it m8

>Can anyone help me out?
>>
op, do something with the z3c. mention it. create a new section called "full package mid-high range devices" or something because when you don't want to get something budget, not overpay for a samshill device, hold your phone it one hand, and want a phone with an sd slot like a sane human, this is (still) the phone you buy
>>
>>51247784
The fingerprint scanner on the note 4 is shit apparently. I would get a LG v10 because it's the epitome of perfection. If its not released in your country yet, then wait.
>>
Would a Wileyfox Storm and a 128 GB card be a good choice for a semi high end phone.
Coming from a Moto G first gen and I could use an upgrade after two years.

>>
This is not a forum. Fuck off with your permathread.
>>
>>51248110
Another anon here, but what makes the V10 so much better than the G4? I'm thinking about upgrading from my OPO, and I was looking at the Nexus 6P and Moto X Pure, but I'm hearing good stuff about the G4 now. It seems to have a good camera/battery/display, plus microsd support and official support from Cyanogen. I know the V10 is supposed to have a good camera, but it's also going to be 200-300 dollars more, and that's kind of a lot to someone who's last smartphone purchase was $350. Is there anything else?

Z3c is indeed worth mentioning, but as "small flagship" phone. Z5c is actually a failure, so that makes the Z3c the best small Android phone out there. If someone doesn't want a big smartphone, they should buy it, as it was spoken on many, many threads here.

Consider adding it, OP.
>>
I'm on Verizon. For a phone to work fully with my network, does it just need to have the proper bands or is there something else that needs to be added?
>>
>>51249005
>Z5c is actually a failure

It's a z3 with some added features?
>>
Picked up a G4 yesterday
>>
>>51249050
Why not a v10? It's a G4 on steroids. I'd return that shit asap if I were you. Sure upgrading will cost 200 dollars more but it'll be worth it.

Improvements:

Better looks
Much better build quality (it's indestructible)
Audiophile sound
Fingerprint reader
Better speaker placement (it's on the bottom, on the g4 it's on the back, which is a downside)
Dual screen (it's useful as fuck, just check reviews)
>>
>>51249150
>Audiophile sound
I'm interested. Tell me more.
Also, the dual screen seems like a gimmick, much like the Edge line. What can it do?
>>

It has a hi-fi sound feature (unlike the g4), and the phone it self is getting a ton of praise in audio communities for the audio quality.

Dual screen is basically like a windows taskbar, that is always on top, it's actually useful unlike the edge line.

I own the Note 5, came from a Note 4. Holy shit was the N4 terrible. Seriously anyone looking to buy the Note 4, do yourself the favour and just get an iPhone it will be better. I ALMOST switched to iPhone because of the crappy TouchWiz OS on the N4.

I swapped my Note 4 at least three times thinking it was "hardware" issues. NOPE. That shit sucks ass and will only get worse and worse. I had to reset my phone back to default every three months to make it usable. Glitchy OS, Glitchy Camera, slow and even rooting + custom ROMS doesn't really do much. I was running other custom ROMs and none of them aside from a hybrid ROM on XDA is stable. All of those custom ROMs have issues with calls/text. Can't have an unreliable phone as an IT guy so yea......

Another big factor, the Note 5 has a BAD ASS camera and the reception is 3x better than the N4.

I almost NEVER had 4G LTE or 4G on my Note 4. That's not the case on my N5.

Good luck anon.

SD card was a big factor for me, although if you're able to take a few mins of your day you can get over 200GB of free storage with Google Drive, Dropbox and OneDrive.

If you have unlimited data than cloud storage should be your main goal anyways.

If you don't have unlimited data, leave Verizon asap.

The removable battery requires work in itself. If you drive and you don't have a QualComm 2.0 charger than you're missing out. The cost of a car QualComm 2.0 quickcharger and decent OEM cable is less than a battery.

That being said, the wireless charging built in is bad ass and must be taken advantage of. Spend the extra $30 on something decent, keep it at home or on your desk at work.

If you don't have a desk at work, leave your job asap.
>>
I still have an old Galaxy Nexus (the one before Nexus 4) and I'm still not compelled to upgrade to 5X.

Specs seems shitty for the price. Only 2GB RAM, no OIS and the phone itself is still huge for my standards (>5.0").

And when I look at any other Android Phones that aren't Nexus, just knowing that the UI is modified by each manufacturer puts me off. I don't even get the point of not giving customers the choice of using bloatware or not.

Only phone I consider right now beside 5X is the Z5C, but again retarded pricetag for what you get. How hard is it for a manufacturer to give us decent future-proof hardware with a <5.0" screen?

Verizon LG G4 is literally free if you trade in any smartphone ($300), do their $100 off coupon code, $200 rebate, $75 cash back at ebates. You just pay the $50 of service for a month, only real loss. Cancel after that and switch to whatever (works on any Verizon networks, should be easy to get on GSM but google first). No contract besides, you're obligated to pay off the phone (using all that free money you got, shouldn't be hard).

Well, only catch is they check your credit, so if you have shitty credit.. good luck.

Make it look like this:

A general thread to collect all of the smartphone purchase threads into one place. Try not to argue, and provide evidence for claims.

Suggestions to this general OP post are appreciated.

It's fairly impossible to brick phones. Have you tried flashing stock carrier firmware through bootloader to fix it?
>>
Should I side-grade from S5 to OnePlus X?

I'm really liking the build quality, and most of the hardware is the same. I'm afraid the camera might be worse.
>>
>>51259414
that's an overpriced pos shit too, though not as much. the z5c has a worse camera, if they removed the gimmick that's the fingerprintscanner it easily could've sold for 400. well, it's what it should be selling for in that case at least if sony doesn't jew out.

the 2 most expensive things in phones to produce are the battery and the screen (unless you consider the entire soc as one soc, in which case, uhh idek). it's 2700 vs 2900 and 4.7" 720p vs 5."2 1080. the z5c is overpriced. if they went with the (cheaper) sd808 this phone should have been retailing at 400. all design flaws they get to write off because "muh smaller means muh harder and muh more expensive". yes, they're doing something special with the 810, it's still overpriced.

Bricked while reflashing stock firmware because I used fastboot instead of motofastboot. It hardbricked while ota upgrade to lollipop and only fix is reflashing the bootloader using mbm ci files which aren't out yet

also thinking about buying an OnePlusX because I got an invite but the more I search about it the more I dont want to buy it. It´s benchmarks are shitier always lowest 2-3places.

Is there a good phone that runs kitkat? I don't really like lollipop. Around 5'' screen size. No need for bleeding edge hardware.

Shitt battery and no sd card slot.

Awkward buttons and plastic build

>HTC one
4.7 a bit on the small side

What else can I look into? I value battery life, microsd slot, and ROM availability. Kitkat is a must.

>>51263052
Sticking to old OS version is not really a good idea. Google will drop support for 4.x soon and it won't be safe to use it anymore. I'd suggest you to get used to Lollipop, especially that it won't be for long - 6.0 is coming.
>>
>>51263894
Lollipop removes features I consider important, changes appearance to a fugly pastel design scheme, has worse battery efficiency and performance. I don't want lollipop, I'm fine with cm11. Can you recommend me a good phone for that?

I'm getting a G2 later on this week. Can you elaborate a bit about this?

I don't like that the buttons are on the back. It's also supposedly cheaply built, but I haven't held one so I can't really comment.

>>
>>51265004
the build quality isn't worse than S4 or S5, which is... pretty mediocre. It's not bad, though. It's just nothing special.

>>51264046
You'll get used to the buttons on the back. It's only a matter of habit.
>>
>>51264029
>removes features I consider important
What are these features, exactly?
>>
>>51267210
You're not able to break/bend the 6P by accident. It requires a force you can achieve only by trying to break it with purpose with all your strength.

It's overblown. Nothing will happen to your phone unless you will try to break it.
>>
>>51248444
>Android is literally the master race
>>
>>51267330
I know the bend videos were overblown, but haven't you read about people having the glass from the back of the 6P cracking spontaneously? Seems the engineers didn't account for the aluminum frame changing size with temperature, and the glass takes badly the extra pressure.

So, my sister wants a phone i have a moto /g/ but apparently my local carrier cancelled all relationships with motorola so its not selling it anymore so i cant get her a moto /g/.

Which is a good phone?
I need a good number of options, because not all phones are sold here and i have to hand pick it.
Last time i asked for help to the guy at the carrier store he tried to convince me that a alcatel with a 480p screen and a 1.2GHz was a $190 flagship phone.

There was a pastebin before iirc.

Hello, I'm switching from iOS to an android for the first time. I don't know what I'm in for I have a few questions

>>>/hm/

I'm srs you can either help me out in here or I make a thread till I find out. I posted here to talk about it so there's less shitposting on my part
>>
>>51274898
>What is "stock android"?
It's pure unadulterated Android straight from Google without any type of customizations from the other OEM's (Samsung, HTC, LG, etc)
>What is "third party apps"?
Any apps that aren't installed to your device, for example you can install a third party keyboard instead of using the stock keyboard that comes preinstalled on your phone.
>Can you really install themes and change icons etc?
On stock Android you can change icons, but not your theme. The only two OEM's who let you change themes out of the box without root would be HTC and Samsung as far as I know.
>What is the music player and camera like? Is it similar to iOS?
Having never owned an iOS device I can't comment on how similar the experiences are but as far as the experiences for music players and cameras on Android it all depends on what you decide to get. If you go stock Android you'll be using Google play music to play any downloaded music you may have and the Google camera to take pictures and both work well in my experience. If you decide on any other OEM, you'll most likely be using their own cameras and dedicated music players.
>>
>>51276305
Thanks. That cleared everything up. I heard touchwizz was shit so I'm going with a stock on the 6p.

Can you add music files from computer to phones? I don't pay for my music so I just convert it to mp3 and add it through iTunes. Is there something similar on android? I saw something about a 4shared app is that what you guys use?
>>
>>51276381
You can just plug the phone into the computer, let the drivers install, and transfer your mp3's from your computer to your phone. You don't need the 4shared app for that.
>>
Well... I'm a bit sad now /WPSIB/.

I was gonna get a Note 4 because it's the best phone I can get in my budget; removable bat, god tier display, stylus, great camera and processor/RAM, and has some good dev activity on XDA.

Well now I found out the N910G (only variant I can get) isn't getting Marshmallow, so that totally scratches that phone for me.

Now my only option is the LG G4 which while a great phone (and $100 cheaper than Note 4) has fuck all dev activity. The XDA forum is a ghost town. I'd be forced to roll with the bloated stock ROM until something like Cloudy showed up, but the phone has been out for over 6 months so the odds of the G4 getting anywhere as far as dev support is looking dire.

Do I get the G4 and risk no dev support, or go without a phone a few months and maybe get an 820 device?

And before you mention; no, Moto X Style and Nexus 6P are out of my budget.
>>
>>51276692
>And before you mention; no, Moto X Style and Nexus 6P are out of my budget.
I know that pain - I'm guessing you live in EU? It's fucking disgusting that X Style, a phone supposed to be cheap, is more expensive than G4 here.

What about Nexus 5X? It will have godlike XDA support, for sure.
>>
>>51276851
>What about Nexus 5X?

It's more expensive than G4 where I live, same price as Note 4 actually. Yeah, it'll have good support of course being Nexus, but it has no removable bat, a microscopic 5.2" display (no1 usage of my phone is media/videos, so bigger the better) and it has a bad time dissipating the heat of the 808 so CPU performance is not great and it heats up the phone.
>>
>>51248878
It has shit battery life though compared to the 6p/note series
>>
>>51276381
Lel, it's funny to look how things completely normal for me (I own Android from the beginning) are something new and unusual for iPhone owners.

Of course you can, just plug phone to a computer using USB cable and move your files to it. The music player will find all music files instantly.

You can also do it using SD cars, providing you have a reader in both your phone and a computer, or just using the cloud storage. Same with movies and all other files you can imagine.
