That would undoubtedly leave a wide open market for a Chinese manufacturer.

But in a sense you'd probably be back to 1980s computing era - where only the 'nerdiest' of people would want/need a personal computer to scratch their intellectual itch.

The GNU project is an operating system project that was started by Stallman in 1983.
The GNU OS website can be found here.

GNU is barely even an operating system any more. More like a UNIX compatibility layer and a really bad DE/software dev API (gnome and family) for systemd+linux.

It's only an OS according to a really dated definition from way back when most of the software you used came from a single vendor

>An operating system (OS) is system software that manages computer hardware and software resources and provides common services for computer programs.
Guess which part makes software talk to hardware, GNU or Linux? You still think GNU is the part which should be called an OS and it would be wrong to call Linux that?

The actual non-autistic correct term about the OS would be "Linux system". That clearly states that the part which talks to hardware is Linux and the system, with all its components, fully usable for common users, is not just the kernel from kernel.org. If you start mixing other names into it, it won't catch on and people will start calling it something else. There's also no reason systemd wouldn't get to be a part of it if it's included also and you need to credit every part individually.

GNU has its ideology and I see nothing wrong with people talking about GNU, it shouldn't be censored totally. Just from the common naming. If you personally bother to say "GNU/Linux" then you should be entitled to and people shouldn't correct you. Just as you shouldn't correct them when they aren't talking about the ideology, but the system installed on their hardware.
