Can someone help me understaund cell phone data. I dont understand 2g 3g or unlimited stuff. A lot of plans im looking at say "unlimited data" than says when my high speed data is used up it goes to 2g or something. Also im looking at tmobile binge on feature that says unlimited streaming or something. Does this mean off wifi? All this is confusing.

Basically almost ALL plans out there have a fixed amount of high speed data. After you use this amount your data speeds will go down to 2G speeds (~128kbps) for the rest of the month until your plan restarts the next month.

There are legitimate unlimited high speed data plans out there but are very expenaive, with t-mobile charging $95/month and sprint $75/month. There are also subsidized unlimited high speed data plans like Boost's $55/month plan but it means that you must buy a phone from them and can never switch carriers. T-mobile also has metropcs which offers unlimited high speed data as well but the phones are generally more expensive.

Can you browse the internet on 2g? I just dont understand what 2g will allow me to do. The answer the reps give me is that it just slows down.

You technically can but things take ages to load. It's an overall horrible experience. Web pages nowadays exceed 10MB sometimes so expect pages to completely load in 5-10 minutes. Abandon hope for streaming youtube or netflix.

If you use a lot of data and are on a budget I suggest you go with boost mobile as they have the cheapest phones and the cheapest unlimited high speed data plan.
