Going to reformat my gaming-workstation on sunday, needs to be done before the launch of Quantum Break. Wondering if you guys have any links or help of updated information on what type of settings I should tweak etc to get the most privacy I can get. I don't care for Cortana or Edge. I can get my hands on an Enterprise image from work.

Thanks /g/ for any help I can get.

>what type of settings I should tweak etc to get the most privacy I can get.
Step One: Uninstall Windows 10.

Windows 10 sends identifiable information to Microsoft, even if a user turns off its Bing search and Cortana features, and activates the privacy-protection settings. http://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2015/08/even-when-told-not-to-windows-10-just-cant-stop-talking-to-microsoft/

Microsoft uses Windows 10's “privacy policy” to overtly impose a “right” to look at users' files at any time. Windows 10 full disk encryption gives Microsoft a key. https://edri.org/microsofts-new-small-print-how-your-personal-data-abused/

Windows 10 requires users to give permission for total snooping, including their files, their commands, their text input, and their voice input. http://www.techworm.net/2014/10/microsofts-windows-10-permission-watch-every-move.html

In Windows 10, the universal back door is no longer hidden; all “upgrades” will be forcibly and immediately imposed. http://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2015/07/windows-10-updates-to-be-automatic-and-mandatory-for-home-users/
Windows 8 also has a back door for remotely deleting apps. http://www.computerworld.com/article/2500036/desktop-apps/microsoft--we-can-remotely-delete-windows-8-apps.html

Microsoft Windows has a universal back door through which any change whatsoever can be imposed on the users. http://www.informationweek.com/news/showArticle.jhtml?articleID=201806263

Microsoft has already backdoored its disk encryption. https://theintercept.com/2015/12/28/recently-bought-a-windows-computer-microsoft-probably-has-your-encryption-key/

you either care about your privacy and ditch win 10 or just deal with it.

>>53802790
Jesus fuckings christ. I really really hope it isn't this bad on entreprise. This is really bad.

Maybe I should just dual boot W10?
>>
>>53803007
really the only thing resembling a solution is to block connections to MS IPs at the router level. The OS bypasses the hosts file, so you can't stop it there. You have to be willing to keep on top of everything your machine tries to connect to though, and keep your router blocklist maintained.

this is, by the way, in addition to all the other stuff you have to block to have some semblance of privacy online - ads, as much javascript as you can, most cookies, anything and everything Flash, etc.
>>
>>53803040
Unfortunately I do not have router control. Can I use a third party firewall to do this?

Is there any guides regarding javascript ads.

You really want to play QB that bad ?
>>
>>53803098
Nope. You're fighting against your own operating system's networking stack here, anything you do on the Windows 10 machine, Windows 10 can bypass. If you have another computer available (anything with two NICs, basically) you can put a pfSense setup in between the W10 machine and the internet.

broader online privacy is a pretty big field with a lot of things to worry about. I really oughta make an infographic that I can just post when people ask about this.

Peerblock with anti-microsoft list.

ivy bridge intel and only 4.5GHz, why?
>>
>>53803347
There's quite a big difference between scanning information you send to the internet and scanning everything on your computer and all your keystrokes.
>>
>>53803351
Because, I don't need more horse-power.
Seriously, nothing is a bottleneck. I don't run VM's on my main PC. I got other PC's for that.
>>
>>53803419
Why do you even need to reformat?
Watch out for random spurts of 100% disk usage. Set all networks including LAN to metered.
>>
>>53803449
You thinking about dual-booting?
>>
>>53803351

>But what is less well-known is that, if you are like most users and login to Windows 10 using your Microsoft account, your computer automatically uploaded a copy of your recovery key — which can be used to unlock your encrypted disk — to Microsoft’s servers, probably without your knowledge and without an option to opt out.

With this in mind, I don't see how can a sane individual agree to all of this. It's like you're getting robbed in the middle of the night and you manage to prevent the robbery and take the robber's gun and then give it back to him, so he can kill you anyway, even though you could've prevented it.
>>
>>53803459
Triple-boot. 7, Linux Mint, and 10.

>>53803460
No one with that much money would program anything in C#.
>>
If you are concerned about privacy and by that I mean not just paranoid after lurking /g/ all the time then do not use Windows 10 for anything other than gaming. Dual boot gnu+linux with it and use gnu+linux for anything other than gaming (though you can play games on gnu+_linux too now).
