Can you feel it, GPLtards?

You spent decades spent coding an entire unix operating system from scratch. You snubbed permissive software licenses and instead hid behind your cherished GPL which you promised would protect your freedom and protect your work from being exploited by corporations.

But it didn't.

You made excuses for Android. You wilfully ignored Red Hat selling proprietary Linux. You pretended that evil corporations like Facebook building their wealth on the back of gratis GPL software was fair and was a good thing.

But you can't close your eyes and plug your ears anymore, not after this.

Today is the day the GPL died. Just think about it. Just let it sink in. All that work, all those thousands of programmers contributing code for decades... all that came of it in the end was a product to be sold and branded by Microsoft, given to them for free by the unpaid labour of thousands of people blinded by the false promises of the GPL.

We told you the GPL was cancer. We told you to go permissive or proprietary. But you didn't listen.

And now it's too late.
>>
>Windows/Linux will be a thing

The memes, amazing. Fuck freetards.
>>
>>53785212
You're misunderstanding the point of the GPL and the four freedoms. Some of the licenses RMS considers non-free are essentially the GPL with a "no commercial use" clause. You have every right to sell free software. Or sell support for it, or act as a developer-for-hire to add some feature to it that someone wants.

The point of the GPL isn't to prevent businesses from using the software. Hell, it's a good thing if they use it. It's there to prevent businesses - or anyone - from trying to deny you the freedom to use, modify, and redistribute the software as you see fit. As long as they give you those freedoms, businesses are more than welcome to use, modify, distribute, and make money off of GPL code.
>>
>>53785212

Yes, they certainly will have Bash.

And instead of apt-get they will have the Windows Store.
>>
>>53785212

Windows is adopting Freedom into its core. They cannot deny the GNU revolution.
>>
>>53785212
I'd like to interject for a moment. What you're referring as Windows is actually a GNU/Windows, or GNU + Windows as I've recently taken to calling it.
>>
>>53785236
I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Windows/Linux, is in fact, GNU/Windows, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Windows. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs.

In this case, GNU is running on the Windows kernel instead of the Linux kernel, so you should be referring to it as GNU/Windows.

What a day to be alive.

I don't get it. I've been using bash on windows for years. Has noone of you ever heard of msys or mingw or the like?

no, they will have almost everything, including other shells and other package managers. You still don't understand what a syscall translator does?

Yes, but this is native. Microsoft have acknowledged it.

They won't have any of that crap. Even if they do, it won't affect Gentoo, Arch, Mint or Debian. They'll continue on as if nothing happened.

>spent decades coding an entire operating system
and if we hadn't done it, microsoft wouldn't have been forced into doing this

>willfully ignored red hat selling proprietary linux
nobody willfully ignored that. the linux license in no way forbids doing it and since red hat open sourced virtually everything and is offering free releases of their operating systems, effectively only charging for customization and support, everybody is pretty much happy with this. it's how it's meant to be.

this, and they won't even know it's happening.

this pointless war is finally coming to an end. sense is finally coming to the software world. ideological borders erased, superior models for the advancement of human development being established.

you see, it doesn't matter to anybody WHY you understand that evolution is correct. it just matters that you do.

Its more like we won, our cause won, our ideology won, Microsoft using the tools of Linux doesn't mean Linux lost it means Microsoft has conceded that they couldn't produce a better alternative

How does it feel being a failure and using a failure OS?

You mean people running GNU binaries on a closed system that goers against everything GNU stands for?

Stallman is going to be so upset about this. Heh.
>>
>>53785490
You're an idiot. Syscalls don't suddenly mean Microsoft is going to put apt or other Linux based stuff into their system.

I bet you a million dollars that Rhythmbox, Gnome 3.20 or Xfwm4 or whatever random Linux software will not show up in Windows. Ever.

You need to fucking deal with it.

This. A thousand times.

They actually use apt-get to install the software in presentation.

You still don't get what this is, anon.

MS implemented linux syscalls and added the ability to run ELF binaries.

The software they use for presentation is directly taken in binary from from ubuntu distro.

X does not work because there is no driver for video output and hence all programs with GUI are obviously not supported - -but this can be solved by usaing a third party Windows X server.
>>
>>53785505
stallman, while having a monumental record, is an extremist. it's good to have such an extremist to bring balance, but not everything is going to be done his way and that's a good thing.

don't see this as "GNU binaries on a closed system", see it as "people from the Windows world finally being included in the goodness that is open source tooling". windows is opening up. that's a good thing, even if it's just a small step for now.

don't be radical. it makes you look stupid.

They are just taking a Linux image and dropping it on NT. Package managers are working.

While this is true, you know a lot of freetards are going to get very angry over this and basically start digging for some obscure way to say what MS did was wrong.

You need to expand on that for it to mean anything. Are you saying non-GPL licenses allow businesses to prevent me using my own code?
>>

>Today is the day the GPL died

GPL died the day fat kike Stallman invented it so he could clone real UNIX tools and pass them off as his own inventions whilst also deceiving mentally vulnerable nerds to work for him for free so he can take credit for all their work too.

Unless they are also willing to condemn Wine, it's going to be bretty difficult for them.
>>
>>53785270
>And instead of apt-get they will have the Windows Store.
It has been comfirmed that apt-get works on Windows. That means Windows users can potentially get their own repositores. Windows Store is justt one way to install software, but Windows users have a lot of liberties to install programs, including portable apps. It's just a matter of time that Windows gets their own repositories.
>>
This is a good thing because Windows needs to take back the server industry from linux by gradually providing what linux offers and providing a familiar environment for developers and IT personnel. Linux really should be just for embedded devices and a hobbyist desktop OS.
