>Premium Android flip phone Gionee W909 unveiled

I think /g/ will like this

>two 4.2" screens, both IPS LCDs with 720p resolution
>MediaTek Helio P10 chipset with an octa-core processor
>4GB RAM / 64 GB storage w/microSD slot
>16MP main camera plus a 5MP selfie cam.
>fingerprint scanner
>USB type C

only catch is that it probably won't support US LTE bands and it's pretty expensive (~$600)

From what I understand they are fairly good on performance/price ratio, but they aren't going to have dev support so no CM (which would probably not happen just because of the other weird hardware). So you're stuck with the stock ROM which could be shit, and you're at the mercy of the OEM for updates.
>>
>>53758486
Their new processors are pretty great, especially the X20, but they are shit because they violate the GPL by not publishing the kernel source.

I'm a heavy phone user. I have been browsing the web on my phone for the past three hours. I've used about 50% battery.

So: what are the phones with the best battery life, or with swappable batteries?

>>
>>53758609
Project Fi (assuming they're still doing this deal) has a deal where you can get the 5x for 199 if you sign up for Project Fi. The loophole is that Project Fi is a non-contract plan, so you only need to pay for a month, and it's something like 20 bucks.
I'd double check my numbers, but it's something like half the price that it normally sells for with that trick

I use it mostly for web browsing, messaging (Line rather than SMS, if that matters), and social media. I do take pictures, but not constantly. Maybe a few a day, if that. Sometimes I play music too.
I basically use it for everything, I barely touch my laptop.

I'd prefer something with a large screen, or at least larger than the iPhone 5.

As for budget I guess I'd prefer $3-500, but I'd be willing to go higher if it's worth it.

This is a weird question, but bear with me:

In order to use a phone in Japan it needs to pass a Japan-specific certification. Nowadays they just throw that shit on the regulatory info page.

Would you be willing to check your phone and report here if it has this mark? I'm looking to buy a new phone, and if I can import one cheaper than buying with a major carrier Id be happy to.

Give me your country, phone model, carrier, and if you have the mark.
>>
>>53759006
Yeah it's pretty solid for what it is. You don't have SD card support, which is a big fucking downside in my book, especially when the phone is only 16GB or 32GB.

I'll say that I can't find a better phone for the price (maybe the Oneplus X), especially considering the support you get from Google for the 5x.

There are other downsides to the phone, but they're all still within acceptable realm for today's average $500 phone, let alone a $220 phone. I'd list out the pros and cons and see if it's something you want. I can't make that decision for you. I'll probably be buying one, though. I've been using a Lumia 640XL for a few months now and can't stand it, I've been dying to get back to the Android ecosystem, and the 5x seems like my best option right now.

You can also try waiting for a few months, there should be some new phones coming out around summer. I think a new Xiaomi is coming out in a few days.
>>
>>53759014
If battery life is your main concern, you could go with one of these:
OnePlus 2 (pricey, new version imminent)
Galaxy note 4 (ditto)
Asus Zenfone 2/Zenfone Max (bloatware)
Redmi 3/Redmi Note 3 (pretty good overall, MiUI is meh)
Xperia Z3/C (kinda old by now)
Ulefone power (poor camera, poor gaming performance, heavy)

Plenty of choices at your price range really.
>>
>>53759014
Depends on your preferred screen size. I think S4 charges quicker, but fuck if I know. But yeah, still viable.

I've been following the trend of the Xperia Z5 for weeks now. Wanting the US+warranty version but it's been $539 since release.
Today hit a milestone though. While it's been $539, technically, it's list price has been $599 with 10% off. Today I noticed that it was still "on sale" for $539, but the list price went down to $539.99. A sale with a savings of $.99. So it is getting cheaper!

The design of smartphones (and as a consequence the design of their software) is terrible.
The only decent ones I've seen are the ones with the qwert* keyboards, but that's not supposed to be used on phones. It's still better than touch screen alone, but I think they should make something specific for mobile phones.
Why do you support this? And why do you want them to use smartphone design for software meant to be used on a desktop PC? This is wrong.
>>
>>53762531
Yeah, I wonder why people don't use an otg adapter and a full size keyboard in protest.

>>
>>53762763

>>
>>53762640
>In what way?
Every possible way.

qwert* keyboards are meant to be used with two hands.

I don't have a solution to propose, at least not yet, I'm just it should be explored. Right now everyone is ignoring it and they're putting touch screens on everything.
Nintendo did a great job with the DS, they kept the buttons and added a touch screen. Smartphones take buttons away to make it touch screen only.

>Do you not?
Why would you expect me to? What made you think I might support it?
>>
>>53762874
The swipe input can be used one handed. The buttons on the DS don't sve the only problem you point out: qwerty was designed for two hands.

>Why would you expect me to?

You are in a thread dedicated to smartphones. The only way your commaints makes sense is if you have used them. Otherwise why even bring it up? You've offered no solutions to anything. We like smartphones, you've given no good reason not to use them other than their lack of elegance.
>>
>>53763024
>lack of elegance
It's not about elegance as much as it is about how you interact with it and what the interface is like.

>qwerty was designed for two hands
Exactly. You don't use a phone like that. Like how keyboards have been designed to be used with two hands, phones should be designed accordingly to what you use them with.

>You are in a thread dedicated to smartphones.
Oh, I'm just passing by.

iPhone 6 Plus, unlocked, us, has it
>>
I have a Oneplus X, let me do a quick review for some out there considering getting (over 5x maybe). I've been using it since its release.
It's à solid phone. Battery life isnt perfect, you will still have to charge it up at least once every day but it's still good to go with everyday routine.
Camera is great, 13MP arent worth shit but photos are in my opinion better than ones taken with iPhone 6 last time I checked, even with front Lens.
UI can be buggy at times and there can be some random heavy lag from what I've experienced, especially when waking your phone. Several times I had to shut it off for a minute before trying to unlock it again. Also you can't remove the battery si you xan easily be fucked.
Entry level snapdragon inside, don't ask much of games as it's kinda slow (tested clash of clans and hearthsone, both run like shit on this).
Screen size is ok too if you're not a manlet. I prefer smaller phones but the OnePlus X is surprisingly comfy to handle and work with.
Also if you get the black one , get yourself some case because that shit is a handprint magnet.
Good phone overall for the price, but if it wasnt for its clean design I would have got the moto g instead.

What's the cheapest phone available that can record video at 60 or 90 FPS? I don't want to replace my old D7000 yet, but i would like to spice up my videos with some smoother slow motion shots.

Hey guys need a purchase advice.
Which phone for under 200 euro?
I want to upgrade from my moto g 1st gen. Right now I am considering moto g 3rd gen and idol 3.
Can i get anything better in that price range?
>>

720p is good enough, but if it being 1080p or maybe even 4k ridiculousness doesn't bump up the price tag, then i'd be ok with those.

Camera rating=5/5

From that list I'd say Redmi Note 3(€163) Redmi Note 3 Pro (€200) and ZenFone 2(€200) are your best bets.

Add more filters for size, performance and battery of your preference and you'll narrow it down.

Yeah it predicts your time remaining based on what you have done during the period between now and taking it off the charger.

Still, even if you had been using it constantly for an hour it usually says 9 hours remaining for me. But again, Snapchat and Facebook will severely degrade your battery life. Facebook you can use a pinned Chrome tab to access it, but Snapchat is a necessary evil if you need it.

At least Doze is working correctly, it looks like.

>>53773021
I'd take an inventory of what apps you are using. If stuff like Facebook and Snapchat are installed, any phone will have poor battery life. But if it already has poor battery life and you just got it, it will only get worse as time goes on.

Got my Redmi Note 3 pro recently, so far it's been a beast of a phone. Build quality, performance and screen are excellent, far better than anything you can find at the price range, with the notable exception being the back camera, which is below average, don't know how it is with their other models. The Miui is a hit or miss for some, in my case I really dislike it, but I'm used to clean Android/Slimrom, so it might be I need some time to get used to it.

Pluses

Cons

Are smartphones nigger technology? They're just small consumption devices designed to waste time and be unproductive. They all have big glass screens making it very difficult to type coherently and fluidly on one. They tend towards being full of addictive and stupid applications.

We've been getting dumber and less productive since 2007 when the iPhone was released and set the standard for every other smartphone out there. Also the year of the banking crisis and stagnating wages, coincidence?

Touchwiz was a horrible bloated piece of junk you couldn't remove. An entire suite of Samsung apps no one used, since Samsung was trying to innovate at that time by pumping out a billion useless features.

Note 3
>note 4 is barely an update
>speaker on back for some reason I stead of comfy bottom speaker
>actual glass or lcd is tinged green, shit tier blacks vs note 3
>heavier
>thicker
>lower quality buttons
>home button sticks out less and is thus somewhat harder to press
>taller
>less comfy to grip
>less energy efficient
Only advantage is 1440placebo, the CPU is literally the same krait cores at 2.7ghz, which you can easily overclock to on a note 3, and the gpu being better is nullified by the higher res screen.
And I guess the metal bezel, although my note 3 feels as if the build quality is overall better other than bezel.

Still might upgrade to it in future if the note 6 proves to be shit and doesn't have microsd or removable battery and I find one for cheap, but 3gb of Ram and the snapdragon 800 model are easily enough to do literally everything.

Why not just get the Z5? It's pretty much the same thing minus the 4K bullshit.
Granted, it's still glass, but it has a matte back to it which makes it less slippy. AND it's also about $100 cheaper.

Believe me, I've been staring at the Z5 on Amazon for weeks now waiting for it to go down in price.
The good news is it's list price (which was $599) went down to $539.99 yesterday. Granted, amazon has been selling it for $539 as a sale price (10% off), the fact that it's list price went down should hopefully HOPEFULLY see the phone go "on sale" 10%+ which would put it about $486
But then god forbid you live in a state where you have to pay tax, which would bring the price back UP about $29

Because the Premium has a larger screen. For $60 more that's easily worth it.
But if I'm going to spend $600 anyway maybe an Xperia isn't the best choice.

Protip: for a device like a smartphone you'll use constantly for years, don't drive yourself crazy over $30 or whatever. Unless you really can't afford it, in which case maybe consider that awesome Nexus / Project Fi deal.

It's larger how? Physically or resolution? I know it's a tad bigger physically, but the Z5 isn't exactly small either. The 4k screen isn't exactly 4k. It's only really used in certain instances and is otherwise downscaled to 1080p.
4k on phones is absolutely retarded.

Yes. The screen is literally larger, thought I thought it was 5" To 5.5", 5.2 to 5.5 isn't as big a deal. PPI is too, though yes 4k is clearly overkill.

The difference isn't huge, but as I said previously the price difference isn't an issue for me.

I had one for a while. Screen ended up developing a dead zone a few months after I got it. Common problem. If it happens you're basically fucked because the repair is as expensive as the phone.

For battery life, best thing to do is root and install greenify. That will at least keep your idle battery drain to almost nothing. Other than that, it's a few years old phone now so you can't expect the best screen on time.

What is the main reason that people suggest the S7e over the vanilla S7?

That price point isn't enough to convince me to spend 110 burger bucks on the edge. They seem to be pretty much the same in specs. The additional battery life in the 7e is to compensate for the additional screen size, so there's no point to argue the bigger battery.
