Everyone assumes the device held some sort of deeper secret and explanation that if we could just get to it, we could prevent everything bad happening in the future.
There's a 99% chance there is nothing relevant at all on the device, even if it would be decrypted, it would not contribute anything of value to the investigation.
All these assumptions about what *could* be on the device have me bothered. It is a futile attempt to draw attention away from the fact that the government failed miserably to keep its people safe, even with the massive amount of surveillance going on. It seems like it does nothing to stop the threats.
