If you do any sort of remote work 1440 or 4k screens are retarded. When you enter the remote session the DPI is all fucked up.
Occasionally I get a person at work that bought a new Dell or w/e laptop with a 4k screen, install the remote work tools on it, they sign into VMware View and their desktop is size 2 font. Even with the desktop DPI set higher (its like 400% on default) it makes no difference.
Plus you are at 400% DPI so everything is resize, effectively making every 4 pixels one. So whats the fucking point?

I have a Samsung TV and a Dell monitor that both have near to no bezzel aka infinity, and they are very nice. My second monitor that still has one looks like crap comparitvely. Just feels much nicer. Not necessary, but nice.
On the other hand i have a Venue 7840 tablet that is the same and has no border on 3 sides. It looks great, but its a hassle on a tablet since if you grip it from those sides you tend to hit the screen by accident.
how retarded would be to buy a 4k 15" laptop and use it at 1080 until things work better at 4K?

You do realize that the scaling is probably set so that 4K display has the same desktop space as 1080p (200% scaling iirc)

You gotta understand even with scaling the individual pixels are smaller and so everything looks sharper and crisper.

This is the case with my asus k501ux
Anything but 3840x2160 is blurry text.
Default scaling was 250 but 200 is just fine.
The biggest issue I've had with this setup is weak 950m. Everything I play ends up at 1080 to have a decent frame rate.
I realized my error when I bought this to dabble with 3D apps. at 4k the 3d preview windows are high res as well taxing the hell out of this video card.

thats probably because the ratio you're scaling mine look fine as a % (125/150/175%) but the scaling itself ends up just being weird.
200% scaling is easy, but how does it figure out say 150% scaling ? how do you make pixels 150% bigger , it can't do half pixels so wtf happens ?
That being said, the pixels should still remain too small for you to notice anyways.
Anything more than 1440 on a laptop is a gimmick. Phones are even worse.

3D apps like blender or Daz Studio running at a higher resolution will generally be more taxing on your video card. Running a modeling app full screen at 3840x2160. I have the UI setup with four cameras. Top/front/perspective/etc. The moment I go to render one of those live for preview, it's essentially rendering 1920x1080 preview.
Where if I was on a 1080p display initially it'd be much smaller and thereby render/preview faster.
Daz Studio and some other programs ignore windows scaling and you end up with pic related.
tl;dr k501ux, if i had the chance to return it and save a couple hundred with the 1080p version. I would do it.
