Is it smart to buy a used laptop?
I'm cheap so I've bought my last 2 laptops used, each was a year old and lasted another 2 years, butI wonder if I was just lucky or if it's a fine thing to do
yes, but not if you buy consumer-tier laptops that are engineered to break in 3 years anyway

The guy I am looking at this from has it posted for $500 OBO and it's in pretty good shape except some palmrest/touchpad light wear . I was thinking about trying to settle between $400 and $500
What do you guys think this would be worth?

But I mean, unless you want to use it as your gaymer machine I don't see why it should be any problems with it, power wise.

For $500, yeah, that's definitely worth it. You won't be playing modern games at 60FPS Ultra settings, but it'll handle enough to easily justify the $500 expense.
Of course, that's assuming it's in working condition.

ah, well most business-class laptops are designed with FRUs in mind, so they can be upgraded to a significant degree compared to consumer-grade machines that may only allow access to the RAM and hard drive and have the CPU soldered down.
Older mobile processors, even the fast ones, are relatively cheap.
That Ideapad gets bad marks from /tpg/ for not being a Thinkpad, but you really cannot argue with those specs. Dual GPUs, fucking hell. $500 is a steal.
