Are full size ATX motherboards the biggest meme in motherboard history?

AT used to be a thing, just remember that...

things killing ATX form factor, in no precise order:

> reduced need of expansion slots from:
> - onboard sound
> - onboard ethernet
> - onboard video
> reduced mobo footprint needs from:
> - SATA replacing IDE/ATA
> - no separate memory northbridge
> - high density DIMMs with max 2 per channel
> mini tower form factor being oversized from:
> - death of optical media
> - proliferation of network storage, NAS, cloud, or otherwise

honestly, 90% of desktop users don't need ANY expansion slots, 99% could get away with a single PCIe 3.0 x16 slot, and 99.9% only need three slots.

the next things we'll likely see on this integration trend are DIMM form factor SSDs (3D XPoint), DRAM moved closer to CPU/APU (HBM, HMC), and more southbridge parts moved to the CPU (ethernet and SATA controllers as in Xeon-D).

There will still be a need for expansion cards for the foreseeable future thanks largely to enthusiast GPUs dissipating more power than a CPU heatsink and fan can deal with, but even that market is shrinking over time.

thats the most autistic shit ive ever read on 4chan

why cant you just admit theyre a meme

Are you actually a complete retard or just pretending for 4chan?

RAID card
GPU
GPU
NIC
USB3 card
PCIe SSD
Capture card
And one slot open for expansion
>>
>>53337672
Are you?
AT motherboards were god awful. Full sized ATX motherboards like OP is displaying are ollllld as fuck. ISA, AGP, SDRam? That thing is not an indication of anything today.

Literally a faggot.

On that board?
Sound Card
GPU
Decent networking card
Controller card(s) for additional hard drives
etc.

Back in the day this shit wasn't onboard.

One word - SLI
>>
>>53337548
I filled out all 6 of the 3.5 inch expansion bays in my case, plus one of the two 2.5 inch bays (For SSD's, but i'm a VelociRaptor master race) so i would go on to say that full size ATX isn't enough, it needs to be bigger ...

biting the b8 abit too hard edition

So you want them to say full sized because of a meme?? That shit cray!

RAID is a meme

You're a meme
>>
>>53338555
Except for the case standard.

And ATX isn't even the largest option. E-ATX, SSI, and others hold that title.
>>
Intel making consumer desktop SKUs starved of PCI-E lanes from Sandy Bridge on is what killed ATX form factor.

yeah why isn't RAID a meme again?

Not a proper backup anyways ...

mATX. Smaller form factor still supports SLI.

Because 3DFX and the VooDoo2 were never a thing, right?
