I'm part of the iCloud botnet. All of my pictures seamlessly upload to iCloud. iMessage makes communication on my computer amazing. Picking up a book is easy on multiple devices because of iCloud as well.
Anyway, I don't want to be a slave to it, I want the flexibility to use an Android device. Is there any workarounds to using an Android in this ecosystem?
Mostly, is there something like iMessage for android where I can send text messages from my computer easily? All the other apps I use are platform agnostic.

No but with Android you can fool yourself into believing that you own the device

Yes, they're called email and SMS.

I already delude myself into thinking that I have control by jailbreaking my iPhone though.

What program for sending SMS from my computer without porting my number to Google?

look the truth is that you have to choose
android just doesnt have something like imessage
the tradeoff is you get unlimited amounts of customization
it's shitty but its fact. apple has curator a really great set it and forget it environment
you can try google photos or just use dropbox but nothing is quiet perfect as the sync on android. there's always kindle for syncing books and shit as well. but the more things you can put into dropbox or whatever the better
