Can /g/ guess what happened?
You don't have a surge protector?

I do, but it came in through the coax. Fried the modem, hopped to its ethernet port, fried the network card and motherboard of my router.
I had a coax surge protector a while ago, but I removed it because it stopped passing signal. Possibly due to a surge, in retrospect...

It's just one of those days I'm glad electricity doesn't travel on fiber.

A bad attempt at ethernet over power

It looks like you bought a bunch of shit off Amazon.

RX480?
The answer is simple: don't live in a shit place (:

I actually used to have fiber too, but AT&T was utterly incompetent. I had to bail after the second multi-day outage. Google Fiber has been "coming soon" for a few years.

Something similar happened to me, but the modem and switch ended up completely unscathed. Only the motherboard ethernet port was dead, the motherboard itself was okay.
Rightly spooked.

You used that mains to Ethernet adapter?

It's my router, needs two ports.
