I have just observed something.
AMD advertises how their sockets have a wide compatibility with their CPUs.

This being said, can the FX9590 with its high TDP work on lower end 760G AM3+ motherboards?

I ask this because as far as AMD is concerned, it's an AM3+ socket and The FX9590 is an AM3+ CPU.

Interestingly enough, I had a discussion with a friend about this the other day. It would appear that either one or two things would occur.

1)The CPU would be throttled.

2)The VRMs would be toasted due to the high TDP of the 9590.
>>
You're probably better off buying a 8350 and overclocking it instead of buying a 9590. They're quite similar processors.
>>

I too would like to know the answer to this. The FX9590 has a 220W TDP, how is a regular motherboard going to deliver the power? Especially something as old as the 760g chipset.

Still good value for money though

Just don't buy this CPU. I know allot about computers and from someone who has been building PC's for along time i can tell you this is a Unpractical rip off. people see 4.7 Ghz and think "WOW must be the best cpu !" when in fact its no where near a Intel core i7. this cpu is the Exact same as the 8350, its just factory overclocked. it advertises as 8 Cores but in reality it is Eight Half cores with four Pools OF L3 cache meaning that it is effectively 4 cores Eight threads !. it does not perform like this however it performs like a Core i5 with 4 cores 4 threads. The cpu needs to be water cooled as-well which shows u just how Power hungry and hot it is !

If you must have Eight cores you need to have the money to buy one. intels 8 core (which is True 8 cores) The 5960x Is around 800 Pounds and is amazing ! if u need a cpu for around this price get a 4690k or a 4790k if u have a bit more money.

The cpu will work with the AM3+ platform which is completely Dead already and 3 years old. if you buy this then you have no upgrade path in the future.

I think you're missing the point. OP is trying to find out how fx9590 cpus can run on regular am3_ 760g motherboards due to its high tdp.

It'll probably blow up the VRMs if you do actually get it to run.>>55636877
>>
You'll have blown vrms in a year and be looking for another motherboard
>>
I see a lot of theories here but does anyone actually know what would happen if you used an fx9590 on a 760g chipset AMD3+ motherboard?
>>
>>55636765
Literally housefire. It will kill low end boards. There is no f-in way some shitty board with a 4 phase VRM can handle that beast.

Pretty much this. I think there was a short list of a few motherboards that were sturdy enough to handle the 9590's power delivery requirements. Found it with a quick search.

Asus Crosshair V Formula-Z
Asus Sabertooth 990FX/R2.0
Asus M5A99FX PRO/R2.0
ASRock Fatal1ty 990FX Professional
ASRock 990FX Extreme9
ASRock 990FX Extreme6
ASRock Fatal1ty 970 Performance/3.1
Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD7
Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD5/R5
Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD5
MSI 990FXA-GD80/V2

Good luck finding these at a decent price.

Just don't do it faggot. The 760g chipset is on budget boards. There is no way they can handle the 9590. If you're lucky the system just won't power on. If you're unlucky it'll "work" for about 3 days before your first VRM blows.

Just because the processor fits doesn't mean it will work.

Oh, oh, I have an idea. Fx9590 + a tower cooler that doesn't direct air to VRMs on a 760g board and run prime 95 the second you boot into Windows. That'll be awesome fireworks.
>>
>>55637445
Better yet- add a shit PSU
>>
>>55637330
GIGABYTE GA-970-Gaming and GIGABYTE GA-990FX-Gaming can also handle it. Those cards are released this year, have modern M2 and USB 3.1 ports and cheap.

booom

>>55636686
You left out the third option, which is that the mobo manufacturer omitted the AGESA code for the fx9590 so it wouldn't fry the mobo. That's far more likely than anything else.

>>55637662
If you go retard, you better go full retard. 99% chance the CPU won't even post because the mobo is like whoa I don't want to post with that thing mounted.
>>
>>55637622
LinusShillTips approved!

On a more serious note, at least PC partpicker kinda recognizes full retard builds.
>>
>>55637717
It's very likely that the boards simply won't boot with that processor and it's omitted from the compatibility list, because the board vendors recognize that their low end boards can't handle it.

It's nice that PC part picker recognizes the fact that the PSU doesn't have enough 8 pin/6 pin cables tho.
