I know the "muh botnet" meme, but can we have a comfy botnet thread?

I am using Opera to watch YouTube videos in pop-out mode, while my OneDrive syncs files so I can read them later on my Android.

I have accounts for everything. Windows 10 has some nice apps like Facebook and Twitter. I get notifications from my friends and work and I can check them on my phone too.

Since I have a Google account, I get better search results and my keyboard knows my most used words, so autocorrect works better.

Everything fucking works, everything is personalized to my tastes. Everything auto updates and auto syncs. I am super comfy. How about you, /g/?

>auto updates is specific to botnet

"Everything auto-updates" is botnet specific. Botnet free users cant use Google Play or Windows Store for that, and rely on smaller repositories of open source software.

I mean documents and books. I use Opera to save and sync pages. The Android version is just as good as the desktop version and Opera Turbo/max saves mobile data.

I hear what you're saying, but not one of the functionalities you've listed can't be accomplished without using a 3rd party service.

The problem with using a 3rd party service is, they are using you. They have to. They cannot simply provide servers and bandwidth (to move your shit from your shit to your shit) for free.

They have to make money on you, and so they do. Use their services with that in mind.

EDIT: Just solved 3 captchas

have owncloud on my homeserver, have contacts, appointments and files syncd. Acess it with desktop and Laptop (running debian/fedora) and BBClassic. Friends call me or send me telegrams/sms. Store notes in filofax and filofax in backpocket.

I've never understood opera pc users. But I guess the lack of customization isn't a big deal for everyone. I will give them this, they throw in everything but the kitchen sink as far as random internet features go. I like the mobile tubo VPN thing, but it really only matters if I'm super strapped for data, and I usually find that some page or another isn't loading right, then I have to reload it on chrome or firefox and then I realize I've just killed more data than I would have saved.
>>
>>55618214
That's not comfy at all.
>Not buying 1TB of cloud storage
>Not using WhatsApp/Discord to chat with your friends and share porn and dank memes
>Not using OneNote for all your notes, perfectly organized with voice recordings, hyperlinks and a good indexer
>>
>>55618280
3TB HDD is cheaper than cloudstorage in the Same size over the lifetime of the HDD, homeserver provides the same comfort as cloudstorage. Telegram is pretty much identical to whatsapp. Voice recordings are not leagal where I work, for longer notes I use xournal on my Laptop, which has a touchdisplay with wacom digitizer.

Except we're not in a SF dystopia and the worst that can happen by embracing the botnet is just having recommandations, spam and publicity sent to you. Which you can all avoid and block.
Not that dramatic and it will never be.

Why would I go through all the trouble to block it when I can just install GNU/Linux and have a superior operating system anyways?
>>
>>55618166
To me, these services are free.

Services like Google Drive and Evernote free are just plain marketing. Free for use but limited, so the user can decide later to pay for it.

Others like YouTube and Amazon Underground are free but have lots of ads.

So at the end they make money of us without compromising the user's privacy. They have to follow the ToS they make, which are pretty much harmless to users.

>>55618552
That Steak was delicious, dude.
>>
>>55618705
If it's superior, then why can't I play all those popular games, find decent Adobe video suite equivalent, or decent music production tools?
That's quite a lot of problems and I'm only talking about what I use, their might be some other things lacking.

>>55618665
Did not watched or read. Care to explain quickly? Otherwise I'll just end up reading or watching it anyway (is the movie a good adaptation?)

"Auto update" is one of if not the MOST cancerous things on a computer along with toolbars. Auto update today is code for automatically installing spyware to your computer and whatever other garbage they can get away with (Windows 10).

AUTO UPDATE IS A CANCER

Are sports for childs? Is art for childs?
What about chess?
>>
>>55618799
Auto-updating is a necessity. 99% of the population wouldn't update their system manually, meaning they would be vulnerable to 10 year old exploits. As long as you can turn it off I don't care.

If you're concerned about "auto-update installing spyware" then you should give a shit about ALL proprietary software, which has the potential to be malware or spyware.
https://www.gnu.org/proprietary/proprietary.en.html

As >>55618825 says, auto-updating is a necessity. The only way to ultimately trust them is to see the code and how it changes.

>there are people who don't understand cloud storage.
Just because you upload it to a server located anywhere outside of your home doesn't mean its stored on some magical mystical new storage techonology. Maybe your hoster uses hdds, maybe ssds. You wont notice the difference on your end. You won't notice the difference to a proper homeserver.

This is a comfy thread. If your OS doesn't support the best AAA games you are not comfy.

Dude, I've been using proprietary software with auto-updates for years and not a single spyware issue.

I get the latest software when it gets released. Free and fast, without worries.

Leaving the EU is retarded. Their quality of life will be going way down. They don't even need to accept refugees to stay in the EU.
