DSL vs Cable Internet? Which one is better? Considering there's no fibre internet available, of course.
From my knowledge and experience, I prefer DSL to Cable. VDSL2 to be exact.
Cable:
>bandwidth shared by your neighbors, so speeds fluctuate

>slower ping. speedtest.net pings would be 30ms+. not sure if it's gotten better since 3 years ago. it was DOCSIS 3.0.
DSL:
>dedicated line, you always get the full bandwidth. no speed fluctuations in peak hour.
>faster ping. speedtest.net pings are <10ms. webpages load faster too, not sure if that's because of ping or because it's dedicated bandwidth.
>slower speeds. 100/20Mbps is the max, while local cable provides 150/15
So, what's the verdict, /g/? Where I live, both have fibre backbones, so it's FTTN.. It's just that FTTH isn't available at my house; my neighbourhood actually has fibre but only partially.
Contacted a cable company employee about the network situation in my neighborhood, and received this answer:

Right now they have a deal where 150/10 internet is $49.90 for a year, but if this is the case, maybe i'll pass.
I prefer cable because it has higher speeds

Cable is actually a fiber where i live here, but using coaxial line to go into your home/line connected into your modem/stb.

yeah that's called FTTN or FTTdp.
i heard cable companies arent bothering with FTTP/FTTH anymore, when they can easily pull gigabit internet through DOCSIS 3.1

Doesn't matter since my lowest speeds are still way higher than what DSL offers at max.
My ISP has never bitched at me for bandwidth, then again I don't download too much crap either. Just the occasional 2GB+ file every couple weeks, maybe less than that.

what's your max DSL speed offered? yeah, DSL can be a tough choice in a situation like that. I use several hundred gigbaytes over 1TB right now.
I have fibre internet, so both are shit to me.
