Just like every extremist in any field they go much too far with it and it's all just a game on who is the biggest loser and they take technology backwards by a factor of 30 years thinking that thousands of people are seeing their obscure terminal software setup that they spent months on trying to differentiate it from ubuntu users who got the same shit in 15 minutes but nobody fucking cares. The difference between technology autists from losers in other fields is that the scale is so much larger - they had to train for years to dropout and do this, train themselves to hate everything and everyone. Arch is easily one of the best distro there is. It actually is better than Ubuntu/Debian in many ways.

I enjoyed using Arch for a while in my free time because it helps you learn about Linux, however I switched back to Ubuntu because I needed a computer that JustWerks(tm). Most of the knowledge you gain from configuring Arch is applicable across distros. I might try Gentoo some time for the same reason, but I'd never use either as a daily driver.

I use Arch and 'buntu and I lol'ed.
I come to these threads and realize I've been running arch on my laptop for 2 or 3 years after one night of setup without any major time consuming issues outside of the normal wireless driver bullshit..
I like that Arch is vanilla and has a good wiki.
AUR, pacman, and the bash scripts used to bootstrap are all shit though.

Ubuntu MATE (outside of Arch of course) is the best MATE installation I have seen so far from the big distros in terms of the programs provided and its initial setup.
I love Arch, and I legitimately think it's the best OS for people that really know what they're doing with linux.
I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

After having used arch for a couple months on my side laptop, I tend to agree with OP. The amount of effort put into maintaining an arch installation could be used to making the Ubuntu distro behave more similarly to Arch, but your "default" is that you have more than you need, instead of nothing.
I did learn a shitton about Linux in the process though. Don't fully regret it.
