As I recall the non K series CPU is not meant to overclocking but the Z series motherboards are?
>>
I'd suggest you take
>i5-6600k instead of 6600
>Z170 Pro Gaming
>MX200 Crucial SSD
>HGST HDD

Also, your PSU is pretty overkill. 500W is enough.

Also, where's your GPU?
>>
>>55610977
I think you're right that the non-K is not meant to be overclocked, but I don't know much about motherboards, I chose one that seemed to be well recommended and that has an M.2 slot.
>>
You are making a great many mistakes butnI'm on mobile and am too stuck in my ways to get good at this touchscreen typepad shit so I'll just summarize.
Look at some builds on PCPartpicker, try and understand WHY people chose what they did and then start the fuck over.
>>
>>55611003
I'm not going to be playing modern games, the CPU graphics will be more than sufficient for the sorts of games I'm going to be playing.

Can you recommend a particular PSU for me?

Also, wow, the MX200 is so much cheaper per GB than the Samsung. Thanks!
>>
>>55611007
Go with a K processor with your Z motherboard or take a H motherboard with your regular, non-K processor. If the Z motherboard is cheaper just keep it.
>>
>>55611007
non K CPUs can't overclock and your motherboard is made for overclocking which implies extra vrms driving its price higher. Get an H or B chipset motherboard , or you could get a K cpu if you want to experiment later on with overclocking and frequencies
>>
>>55610908
3000/3200 DDR4 performs almost exactly the same. You could easily pick up cheaper modules without any real loss of performance. In some situations performance actually degrades past 3000.

For gayming M2 SSD's typically don't offer up the level of performance you'd expect from the raw numbers, and you are sacrificing capacity at the same price range. While you may get slightly faster loading times, you could store all your personal files and more games on a larger SATA SSD for the same price and not have to manage switching games around from storage to SSD nearly as often. If you play MMO's, 128 GB will get eaten up quickly.

Why not get actual enterprise hard drives for a cheaper price?
https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=16002

Your PSU is way above what you will need. You could bump down to a 600w and save money without losing anything unless you plan on using crossfire/sli.
>>
>>55611077
>>55611044
Thanks, I really don't know what I'm doing with modern components. Looks like I can save a chunk with an H motherboard.
>>
>>55610908
Do you already have a GPU? If so which one? If not what is the PC for?
>>
>>55611044
The highest end motherboards usually have features other than ability to overclock. Buying a shittier motherboard just because you don't plan to overclock isn't necessarily a good idea. I made that mistake once and I suffered for it 7 years while I used that board.

Yea it was cheap, but it was also shit.
>>
Does this look ok for a first tine, cheap ass build?

http://pcpartpicker.com/list/JpHtgL
>>
>>55611104
Old games (most recent is NWN2), programming (but nothing intensive).
>>
>>55611037
Are you sure that the onboard GPU is enough? What specifically are you playing?

Take this PSU specifically:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA68V21E0644
It's a bit more expensive but it's way better than the one you chose.

Also, take this HDD instead of WD.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA5AD2NA9155
>>
>>55611037
The MX SSD is considerably slower than the Samsung SSD and probably less durable.

>>55611088
Listen to this guy

>>55611118
I would not buy an AMD processor for now and Segate sucks ass. You probably don't need the dvd drive either.
>>
>>55611147
So swap the cpu for an i5, switch hdds for a differenr brand and cut the disk drive. Then good to go?
>>
>>55611118
>AMD CPU
No.
>mobo
seems okay
>RAM
DDR3-1600? Take DDR4-3000
>Seagate
Shit
>RX 480
Wait for the custom cards
>Case
Okay
>PSU
600W is overkill
>DVD Drive
Take the GH24NSD1
>>
>>55611182
Link updated build
>>
>>55611088
Thanks, I'll look at SATA SSDs and a different PSU.

Do you think DDR4 2133 would perform well enough?
>>
>>55611220
RAM speed is almost never going to play a role unless you're calculating pi for a world record.
>>
>>55611235
kek

So does this look like a better value SSD?

>>
>>55611202
How's this?

http://pcpartpicker.com/list/ntctgL
>>
>>55611277
Are you memeing us here?
>>
Is there something wrong with this PSU? It seems suspiciously cheap.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817170031
>>
>>55611220
There are options for 3000 in the 50-60 dollar range. It isn't that memory speed doesn't matter, it just doesn't scale well past 3000 on DDR4 for general use. You'd be paying a premium for very little benefit.
>>
>>55611318
Fake wattage and pre-pentium 4 design.
>>
>>55611337
Sheeeit. Can I expect to get a good 500W PSU in the $40-$60 range?
>>
>>55611235
Don't listen to this fuck. Ram will increase responsiveness and non-volatile access time on a Samsung SSD (Since it caches on RAM). Also, if you run any memecraft servers or anything, ram will help a lot.

>>55611277
You are missing ram.
K CPU with non over clocking motherboard
crappy Hard drive
>>
>>55611107
On a different view, more components on the board increases chances of failure. Even with manufacturer statements of stricter QC and better components, gaming boards end up having higher failure rates overall.
>>
>>55611405
I think that has more to do with how they are used.
>>
>>55611357
No. You can expect a decent one maybe. I think Corsair CX series falls into that price category. It's not great, but it does the job. There are some others too.
>>
>>55611445
Every component on a motherboard is a single point of failure. You add more components, you increase overall chances of failure. It's really that simple. Why would less components, assuming they are of the same quality fail more often? Even the cheaper IC's like the network and sound chips on non-gaming boards have lower chances of failure simply from being produced in larger numbers and being old enough to have multiple revisions to fix design issues.
>>
>>55611548
True but the majority of components on mobos are very simple and have extremely low failure chance. So the change from say 10 capacitors to 20 is insignificant.

Also don't most gaymen boards use the exact same sound chips as cheapo boards? My FATALITY KILLER X99XXXX board uses the same Realtek shit everything else does. It has some fancy gold painted capacitors but that's about it.
>>
>>55610908
>optical drive
Jesus fucking christ just get a $300 NUC and call it a day.
>>
>>55611088
Logical increments recommend m.2 ssd on some builds

http://www.logicalincrements.com/articles/steammachines
>>
500 watt is enough for most PC's with one GPU, maybe 600 watt if you have a higher end CPU+GPU. if you have no GPU at all you will never exceed 500 watt.
>>
>>55611617
Yea, a 512GB M.2 SSD for 1 build.
>>
How much do you guys think I can get for a corsair 650d I would like to switch to 250d
>>
What do you think of this build? I tried to follow most of the advice in the thread.

http://pcpartpicker.com/list/6YPWD8
>>
why are you getting an i5 6600 if you're not gaming

what are you going to be doing with this machine?
>>
>>55611734
Oldish gaming, most intensive will be NWN2/KOTOR2

I'm beginning to think an i5 is overkill though, I might get an i3 instead.
>>
>>55611617
On Logical Increments, they recoommend the 850 evo. In SATA and m2 it has the same performance, and the exact same price. The 951 the OP linked has much higher io and throughput than normal SATA SSD's, which is where the higher price comes in. I didn't want to confuse op with talking about NVMe since generally that's why you would be looking at M2 in the first place.
>>
>>55611761
do neither. get an older i5 machine. you get the full quad core but not the newest price. i recommend searching "i5 optiplex" on ebay. you can find haswell i5 full systems for like $200.
>>
>>55611761
Get this.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16856158048
Buy a CPU, RAM, and storage. Stop wasting your money on stupid shit meant for epicccccc gaymurrs.
>>
>>55611761
example of something you should look at

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Dell-Optiplex-7010-i5-3570-CPU-3-40Ghz-4GB-RAM-320GB-HD-W7-Pro-/322184971489?hash=item4b03b884e1:g:dbIAAOSwkl5XfoVW

type i5 optiplex into ebay, buy new case and new psu and you're golden. if you want to upgrade to gaymer status later they have full speed pciex slots
>>

actually just noticed that actually has apentium??? wtf listing name

anyway trust me you can find good shit on ebay please trust me

Case can be a tight fit with water cooling if you're going that route. Here's my old rig.
>>
>>55611915
My lips are sealed, fair anon.
>>

I actually had to trim 2 fins from the RAM to get the fans to fit, so be aware.
>>
>>55611927
Which corsair case is this
>>
>>55611943

Carbide 200R, same as in OP
>>
>>55611583
Yes, but the change from 10 to 20 would still increase the overall failure rate, which is what I'm trying to say. If you roll two dice, you're more likely to roll a six.

Depends, but the more expensive gaymen boards typically have newer chips that come at a premium with younger designs produced in smaller quantities. If you want to see what terrible driver support looks like, go poke around troubleshooting threads about any of the proprietary or rebranded shit any hardware manufacturer has used for their GAYMEN BRANDâ„¢ shit.
>>
I have an old PSU corsair tx850w, never been used. Is the not modular PSU worth it because Im trying to build a new one? I will probably put the case under the desk anyway.
>>
>>55612059

Modular is really only for looks since you can limit the number of cables. Just tuck them away like your sissy gf tucks her balls.
>>
>>55612072
Kinda get a boner from this.
Thanks, I can save some money with this and the old case.
>>
>>55612059
Modular PSU's are solely for looks (cable management for desktops is aesthetic). The design and components are exactly the same.
