Why do people insist pushing these memes about linux that, linux there, linux whatever. It's fine as it is and always get improved and it's used by people who want to use it, can use it and see the benefits of it. If you just want something that "werks" for simplicity sake, you go with windows or osx(if you own a macbook) simple as that, no need to bash, whine or meme about.

this lack of self-awareness.

see, the gist of the article is that Way Back When, linux distro X released every six months. however, in this brave new world where linux has never been so accessible, that old six-month window isn't workable due to the sheer number of people using linux distro X. thus: on one hand you end up with greybeards reeeee-ing that their hyper-specific use case scenario doesn't work the same as it did, and on the other there's clueless newbs wondering why their phone won't talk to their computer any more.

and of course anon here comes steaming into the thread saying STOP COMPLAINING ABOUT LINUX and countering a 'linux shit doesn't work' rant that never happened. like the article author's proposed solution to the problem: slow down. maybe read before reflexively taking the defensive. etc.

The real problem with linux is the number of shitty distributions.
Having various distributions with various purposes that works differently like arch linux, gentoo, debian, ubutnu, fedora, rhel, centos or open suse is okay.
Having distributions based on distributions based on distributions is not good.
Look at the state of linux mint to understand.

Also the gvfs-smb-browse bug still has not been fixed for a year.

It's a well known bug affecting every ubuntu and mint user.

He has a point in thst a new release really shouldn't make things worse and turn a bunch of functioning features into unfunctioning ones. His repeated whining (article and comments) about Mint no longer having proprietary codecs out of the box is weird considering the Mint team has made installing them very easy. So this article is 50% substance and 50% being a bitch.

So I agree that
features, and important ones at that, should not just break from release to anither

Oh, you already have malware on your computer. Windows 10 is shit for security and privacy and that's essentially your spyware.
>I fixed the spyware settings
Sure, and I have too, but even with minimal spyware settings you will still be sending data to Microsoft.

But even with the issues of Windows 10, I will still utilize it in certain scenarios (like gaming) because I am not above it.

>How much time you waste on linux trying to fix things?
Fixing shit is really a universal OS problem. On Windows I've had to fix shit because Microsoft has a habit of depreciating useful features and breaks other ones. Plus with Microsoft, you have to deal with abortions like Windows 8 and the stupid fucking changes that make no sense. You could at least grant Ubuntu props for consistency.

In my opinion, Chrome OS is going to end up being the future of desktop loonix for the general population. Especially now that most chrome OS devices will run Android apps in a few months. Chrome OS seems to be the only "Linux distro" I used where I didn't run into weird bugs.

I guess the only way for DESKTOP Linux to succeed was for a multi-billion dollar coporation to develop their own distro. Just like how mobile (Android) Linux succeed.

I might use it as my main OS if I could use Gentoo's software repositories right from chrome OS's terminal.

Firstly because i hate portable/handheld/touch UI elements infecting Desktop environments;

works on every machine I have
> Linux Mint recently decided to stop providing codecs
well, first of all, don't fall into mint meme, there are a lot better ones out there, and secondly I'm pretty sure not even on winblows/macOS does every video work out the box, but instead it'll be easier to get working on linux (apt-get update and apt-get install codecs)
> network connectivity drops
works on all my devices, also dont buy realtek
> the same issues with smartphone (MTP) support are present and carried over into future releases.
mtp works well on all my machines

what a click bait, linux is better than ever and has more momentum than ever

those who can, do. those who can't become fanboys

klokov isn't a weightlifting fanboy, he's an elite athlete

also mint sucks. it's one of those "it's just so easy!!!!" distros that actually just sucks.
