New to PC gaming... Just read the term coil whine and watched some videos... Have not had this problem with my 1070 but holy fuck saw some videos on YouTube how the fuck do people put up with that horrendous noise I feel like it tears up my insides... Have you had any coil whine?
get headphones that cancel noise, never hear any of my fans or coil whine.
had some coil whine in the past with an rx 270x, but it wasnt that bad, and eventually went away once i upgraded my psu to a superflower

yessir. i had it on a strix 1070 that i ordered. i filled out an RMA for it and am waiting for another one. it's taking forever tho ;(
Every single card I've had has coil whine at very high FPS (like 200+).
However in normal situations, you should get no coil whine.
I had a MSI motherboard have coil whine with integrated graphics and a couple of mini/itx versions of video cards gave me coil whine.
My EVGA 1070 gives no coil whine at normal fps (below 200).

Some software incorrectly generates thousands of frames per second when you need only 60 or 120 or 144 or whatever. When running that kind of software, it can be limited with Nvidia Inspector. You can check FPS with something like FRAPS.

Funny I've never had coil whine on a GPU in my entire life.
Only time it happened was with a PSU.

I used to have a
Vapor-X HD 7970 GHz Edition 3G D5
that displayed some minor coil wine
now with
ASUS Radeon R9 290 DirectCU II
it only shows up though the speakers
mostly I blame realtec for being shit
but I cant really trust creative labs any more since the debacle with their pci cards and a general lack of driver support
I might get some of my old cards running though adapters and spdif

coil wine is only really a problem at high frame rates
such as old fmv or not using vsync

My friend says my PC has serious coil whine, but I can't hear it at all. Is my hearing fucked?
My MSI 970 coil whines like a BITCH when it's stressed.
All of this version of the card does this though. Luckily it doesn't do it normally, it has to be at max load.

Coil whine has nothing to do with fans, buddy. It has everything to do with coils in the power circuitry. There's also squeal from capacitors sometimes.
