That's a powdered-iron core inductor. It's part of a VRM, not the whole thing.
>There is no way that shit just fell off you broke it.
They're usually the last thing to get hot enough to reflow, so fucking up the IR/air profile can in fact cause cold solder joints and they'll fall off.
>can I solder it back on?
If you have a rework station, sure. They have a ton of thermal mass and usually sit on a big plane/trace. Without the right tools, you'll fry the PCB before getting the solder to flow evenly.

>>55596331
Anon, have you never soldered before? If not, I forgive you for your crappy soldering job.

Other anons, looking at OP's first pic - it's sitting in a sea of lead-free solder, the kind that probably doesn't wet worth shit. The side that's on the ground plane is probably VERY well heat-sinked by the ground plane on the board.

If all OP got was the cheapest 15W iron Radio Shack had, and whatever they had on the shelf (it's been a while, I'd hope they still sell lead/tin, but if they don't, OP might have been further hobbled by using lead-free solder. On a big ground plane. And a 15W iron.)

Don't get me wrong, the soldering job is objectively asstastic. An hour practicing on a scrap board would have helped him develop his skills, and I'd still encourage him to grab a scrap board and try it a few more times until he gets the hang of it.

But it works. First-time solderer breaks thing, gets off ass, fixes thing. Shares adventure with us. We all laugh. OP has his vidya card back. We are entertained, he has learned a few things, everybody wins.
