Apply yourself to some need that other people have.

If you produce results in a timely manner and people including you are satisfied with the results and what you're using is within your budget then what you have is the best for you at that time.

Get excited about getting out and eventually fucking and you won't be so much of a zealot.

GNU/Linux.

>>

There are and have been top 10 Windows supercomputers but licensing is expensive considering supercomputers aren't 1 machine but hundreds.

Windows still has 33% server marketshare because not everyone is poor and in need of throwaway Linux images that Pajeet can respin when the OS kills itself randomly.

Linux.

Just tired of having to restart Windows every time it updates, or every time I install a program, or every time I uninstall a program, or every time I change a setting...

Plus, when you turn on your computer expecting to get right to work, you shouldn't be greeted with "Windows is installing updates, please wait" for 5-10 minutes.

Those are some of the main reasons I prefer Linux.

gnu/linux.

i have grown a very comfortable .vimrc, shellprofile and packagelist over the years and even with a lot of customization applied my system gets maintained thanks to my distro of choice. every bit of software is always very up to date thanks to my trusty packagemanager and even if something breaks i have the knowledge and help of the community to fix it (mostly in the form of a quick websearch).
even if i have to reinstall it on new piece of hardware its easy and comfortable to move and if you are not a dumbass and read reviews you always find good and compatible hardware .

i find most games a waste of time. having a functioning computer i can use as a computer at my fingertips is much more important to me then pressing buttons on some shitty latex contoler or running against walls with tiny screens in front of your eyes.

the non-botnet/nsa and actually downloading debug-symbols and looking at why-the-fuck-is-this-software-broken aspect of it are a giant bonus and also one i will no longer compromise on if i am being honest. if i can't understand and fix it, whats the point of owning it? if its not in my control it controls me

now with the release of snapd/flatpack and distro independed packages in general there might come a time where more people that don't care about these principals might come to enjoy some aspect of this great system, even if its through ubuntus windows reverse-wine fuckup. maybe we get more software now maybe not, iam sure i won't use it because mostly i live an breathe on the terminal.

i also don't need any new software. software is not crack-cocain, even if the tech press wants you to believe this. even microsoft office/photoshop users understand this. iam very happy with what i have now its beautiful, gets updates and works better for me then everything else and i don't have to worry about a thing, so yay?

anyway use what ever lets you sleep at night and you are most happy with. i found my system and will stick with it

Here's what's going to happen. Windows will become subscription based for any usable version. They will probably have some fucky "Lite" version that is basically RT remastered that will be free but almost no one will have it and just get a new laptop every year because they "include 1 year of Microsoft home free!"

Meanwhile, someone will come up with a compatibility layer like wine only this actually fucking works as soon as they announce that they are becoming subscription based and make a fuck ton of money from sponsors and donors.

Short version
>windows fucks everyone
>wincucks deal with it and spend more money
>Linux fags actually get off their asses and make having windows pointless.
>Windows will probably end up trying to sue but the project will keep going illegally.

I sincerely hope so, but you're actually expecting a Linux company or a developer team to go rogue and cuck Microsoft (Linux normies can't be expected to do something like that). I can already see the lawsuits destroying their lives. Unless they do it in a basement or a country not controlled by America, Microsoft will probably ruin them.

Then we should fucking do it. If any and all dev fags in this board pooled together, we could actually come up with something worthwhile. Everyone should create brand new developer pseudonyms not traceable back to any previous aliases, use a source control not cucked by microshit, and develop openly. They can't sue everyone, and if nobody takes any credit then there's nobody to sue. Also, the lead devs should use an onion to prevent being tracked by Microsoft lapdogs and personal info pinged back to them so they can sue somebody.

I have hope!
>>
>>55592665
Probably a bait, but it's not that impossible. And there's no need for tor, just get a non-subscription mobile network for PC (that thing with a SIM card on a USB drive) so that ISP's don't screw you over. The problem is people aren't motivated enough to do this, and /g/ isn't reliable.

you may have a point but I believe you can safely kill dbus within your system while windows if you kill it you have to shut down your system. You have to intentionally block any outgoing connections, listen, this doesn't even have anything to do with network loop back RPC's. Microsoft isn't even hiding the fact that they have the uncontrolled power to collect any information they want on your PC. They include built in RAT's and keyloggers. It's bullshit and that's the problem
>>
>>55594037
im not disagreeing with the bullshit MS is doing. i just think if you want to make a point about the things MS are doing that ARE wrong then you need to post valid evidence and not known-to-be-incorrect videos from some random youtuber or whatever.

windows 10 has been out a year now and so far there is not a single valid bit of research that has shown microsoft secretly collecting keystrokes and screenshots etc when you disable those features using the documented ways of disabling them.

if you install windows 10 and use a local account, disable onedrive and cortana and reduce telemetry to basic then all that gets sent from all the valid research done is that exactly what MS says is collected is done so and nothing more. and that basic data basically comes down to
>did an update install correctly? if not why not?
>user installed an app from the app store
>user opened that app only twice since installing it 5 days ago
>is there a problem with the app? asks user for feedback IF feedback is not disabled
>the system did not shutdown correctly, why not?
>user has disabled feature X from the default configuration
>user has X set as default app for filetype Y

basically it is nothing privacy related, it is all just basic system reliability info

I disagree, The terms and service states that Microsoft can forcefully take whatever data they want. Weather it was intended to be this broad is irrelevant, whats important is that it gives Microsoft to collect whatever the fuck they want to. Weather legitimate or illegitimate. And that's just Microsoft. Having this software built in Windows is also harmful as a cybersecurity issue. Windows is still the most vulnerable system and If anybody takes control of your system they can use any built in software. But yes, Windows has been open about all of this and because of it I see people slowly waking up on how scary this is. And while most of this is optional, it is entirely possible that it doesn't have to be. Nobody should have the ability for anyone to know anything anyone else they do not what anyone to know

I have a better idea. Actually make Linux software that can compete with Windows.

Windows if you're a casual computer user. Linux if you like spending time on computers.

Because it's not Windows that's causing the traffic. It's either some retarded software whoever recorded this installed or made to spook people or they configured their network like a pajeet.

Oooh look at all these spooky numbers!!! Actually looking up the addresses it's contacting? That's too much work and it might debunk my attention whoring video! MICRO$HIT IS SPYING ON YOU WINKEKS TRUFACT

Win Server 2012 supports 640 cores.

If you would like to convince a business of 200 people to let you roll your own ldap+kerberos+whatever instead of AD feel free.

Software is a tool, different tools have different uses. Stop being autistic.

Both are good enough for many purposes.

I personally prefer Linux, but most systems I have currently (pending mobile devices) run Windows 10 currently. I might switch to all Linux, as I don't really game anymore, and that was all I used it for.

It really depends on your needs, you technical ability, willingness to learn/curiosity, and hardware.

Windows will give you a smoother initial experience, but is quite limited on what you can do from there (relatively speaking, of course).

Linux, while very malleable, requires a bit more attentiveness. This can be a weakness or a strength, depending on you. If both systems will suffice, I say give Linux a try, as it won't cost you anything. If you don't like it or have too much trouble and don't want to figure it out, you can always switch to Windows.

If you try Linux, I'd recommend playing around with Debian, Fedora, Mint, or one of the other major distributions first. My preference is Debian, then Fedora.

Good luck.
