A few years ago I got an asus rampage 3 for free. I know nothing about overclocking etc and I wonder if its worth changing motherboard because it's quite old, however it's in good condition.

That's my motherboard. Still working great after all these years on an overclocked 960 (I wanted a 920 but I got the 960 for the same price so whatever).

don't change your motherboard unless you're doing a complete overhaul
You only change motherboard if you need a new socket
