>one tab saves you eight spaces
What did he mean by this?
Literally who?
And it's not like you actually type in the 8 spaces.
>>55575994
>not like you actually type in the 8 spaces
Wait, you don't?
>>55575985
>8-space tabs
How many cracks do you have to smoke to get this high?
>>55575985
He literally (LITERALLY) meant, striking the TAB key once is equal to striking the SPACE BAR eight times. Fuck fampai.
>>55576118
>his editor doesn't convert tab strokes into spaces automatically
What the fuck are you using? Vim?
>>55576118
But it isn't
>>55576135set expandtab
>>55576118
tab is equal to 4 spaces not 8
>>55576179set tabstop=8
>>55576135
>>55576137
>press tab
>automatically converted to 4 spaces
>implying people that use spaces actually press the space bar
this show sucks
>>55576135
>>55576274
>using Notepad
Opinion discarded.
>>55576086
autoindent
>>55576274
>notepad
>windows 7
>"screenpresso"
Opinion very discarded.
>>55575985
Tabs are for men, spaces are for autists.
>1 tab
>saves you eight spaces
If it's 8 or 1, then it saves you 7 keypresses.
>>55576372
>>55576437
Meh, this is a work pc and screenspresso is cringe worthy but there's nothing wrong with notepad. In fact, someone with half a brain would understand that notepad is the perfect environment for verifying the number of spaces that would equal a tab given that it's the default text editor in a very well established OS. FFS.
>>55576537
Have you forgotten most of /g/ have some degree of autism?
>>55576505
he said spaces not keypesses
>>55576644
I said keypresses, not spaces.
>>55575985
>8 space tabs
>not 4 or even 2
>>55575985
Idec familia, i let pycharm manage that shit for me...
>>55576135
No, he meant using actual tab characters, like \t, for indentation.
They had a specific point about "your code looking different on other people's computers"
Tabs look like fucking shit on most editors/viewers, and for a good reason
If you don't configure your text editor to put 4 spaces when hitting tab, you're retarded
>>55576368
>>55576274
I'm sure you could find/configure an editor to put the equivalent of 32, 1000 or 5 million spaces when using tab
this doesn't prove shit
>>55576537
Notepad++, you fucking dingus.
>>55577676
>your code looking different on other people's computers
I've never seen such case.
I saw my files opened in a bunch of os/editor combinations and they always looked the same.
>>55578034
and you use actual tab characters?
>>55578192
yes
>>55578209
Huh. I was just quoting what they said on Silicon Valley, and I assumed it was pretty much true.
Good to know.
>>55575985
>implying i use tabs
I use space bar faggot. The only time i use tabs is when forced into it.
