Funny considering we're talking about the company that's giving us Windows 95's display model; an XML-based bastard clone of the Windows registry; a monolithic everything-system full of security holes and antifeatures; bloated-ass, buggy and crash-prone IPC and sound servers that mimic even Microsoft APIs in their needless complexity; are actively moving towards a desktop in which aesthetics trump functionality every single time; and much more.

Red Hat has been trying its hardest to mimic Microsoft since the beginning of its existence. They love their XML and bloat everywhere, dumbing down the user experience, adding tracking and botnet, etc.

You're making the assumption that I use DDG because I think it will somehow improve my online privacy.

I don't, I use it because it's a billion times more convenient to have a single meta-search engine to everything in existence.

If I'm looking for a general topic, I always use !g anyway because nothing else finds relevant results.

For general-purpose computation and statistics I find the best thing to do is use the REPL of your favorite programming language.

For many, that's python. For me, it's Haskell. For some, it's R. (And mostly because R is geared towards non-programmers)

But since you're on /g/ I assume you know at least one scripting language with a strong repl and good numerical bindings

>So you use Emacs, then switch to Vim when you start to feel pain in your extremities?
It seems you missed the "Emacs+Evil" part in my original post. Evil mode is an Emacs extension which implements a majority of Vim's features.

I am first and foremost a Vim addict and user because of modal editing, ex-commands, and a few cool plugins (mostly by Tim Pope). However, Vim doesn't have Org mode (https://org-mode.org), so once I learned that I could use Vim-bindings in Emacs, I learned the ways of Emacs almost entirely for Org mode.

I have both editors set up with nearly identical bindings, so I can go back and forth between them pretty easily. Vim is nice for quick edits in the terminal. Emacs is nice for long-term writing, note taking, task-management, and it has more extensive debugging features. Best of both worlds, bro.
