Because AWS is a huge cloud infrastructure provider. It's hosted by amazon, but the company rents servers / network infrastructure / data stores for their own uses.
Literally everyone uses hosted solutions for something or other right now. It doesn't make much sense to run bare metal farms anymore unless you have unlimited amounts of cash.
Microsoft Azure is the same kind of deal, google also has its own web services offerings as well
