Yeah, I don't get the autism some people have over it. Obviously it ruins part of the functionality of the watch but if you aren't planning on going swimming/diving then it doesn't really matter.

I want a box for my watches, can I get a wooden one for about €50?

One for 5/10 watches and possibly a slot for bracelets/straps would do.

If it's too cheap for a wooden one what's the best alternative?
>>
>>55568456
There's the cheap pleather boxes that a lot of people have here.

Otherwise lots of options, ideally not chink.
>>
>>55568483
I'm Italian, anything of quality I can get for a few bucks more? I really would prefer to avoid fake leather if possible.

Last time I checked wood and leather manufacturing are a speciality of my country, lots of leather straps for watches are made here for example, thought I might get some premium box for a "discount" price.

Hi there!

You seem to have made a bit of a mistake in your post. Luckily, the users of 4chan are always willing to help you clear this problem right up! You appear to have used a tripcode when posting, but your identity has nothing at all to do with the conversation! Whoops! You should always remember to stop using your tripcode when the thread it was used for is gone, unless another one is started! Posting with a tripcode when it isn't necessary is poor form. You should always try to post anonymously, unless your identity is absolutely vital to the post that you're making!

Now, there's no need to thank me - I'm just doing my bit to help you get used to the anonymous image-board culture!

Ahh, my Italian friend

You bullied me but I'll give you my advice

Spend as much as you can afford on the box, I wouldn't put watches worth several hundred in a cheap box. I got this bix here given to me. It was $120 Australian, but the Jeweller was a swindle. So it would probably be 50 cuck bucks over where you are

You could get one online, but I'll leave that up to you. Taxes and shieettttt

Oh, yeah my box is pretty good quality, it's actual glass, actual stained wood, no leather which is a good thing, I'd rather suede instead of pleather

Apologies if my post isn't that articulate, I'm a big rretarded at the moment

Yep, this was my thought as well.

€50 for a wooden box seems pretty good. I'd prefer one without the glass, though. At least now I know it's possible to get what I want for cheap, thanks.

Close to 90% if not more of gun deaths are from suicides and inner city homicides (black people) with illegally acquired guns.

If you can track down a 4S15 then you've basically got a "modern" 52 caliber. But they are absolutely balls hard to find, and very expensive when you do find them. You're honestly better off just finding a 5206 in nice condition for around $150. As Jewfriend said, they usually just need a service from a competent watchmaker.

I currently wear a Citizen with a grey metal body, a black dial and a black plastic strap. It has served me well but it's time to move on.

White or grey dial. Black is universal.

For cheap but dressy watches that look good with suits, look at some of the Seiko LM models on ebay. King Quartz also applicable.

Seriously, no diversification here. It is all fucking Seiko automatics, Seiko 5s, Grand Seikos.

I got some ideas for some good watches for you all.
Beautiful dress watches in the same price range include Orient Bambino and Orient Symphony, beautiful finishes and a rotor that works 5x better than the rotor on the Seiko 5's.
Tissot Automatics, one of the cheapest brands you can get with an ETA movement in it, that is Swiss made.

Even unique watches, like the Atomic Citizens, the Bulova Accutron w/ Tuning Forks, the Bulova Precisionists (which are phenomenally accurate and sweep fluidly), and Citizen perpetual calendars.

Hell, I would even try some watches with Sea-Gull movements in it, they are less than $100 and are pretty durable and accurate, like Parnis'. And also some great German watches out there like Zeppelin.

These are all within the below $500 price tag... generally, sometimes a bit over. Needless to say, Seiko does have some reliable movements for pretty cheap, but I don`t understand the hysteria over a good Orient or even Citizen automatic using a Miyota, or some of the interesting Bulovas out there. I find the power reserves on my Orients and Miyota automatics last way longer than Seiko 5's, and you get a diversified look whether going with Citizen or Orient. Not to say that the Seiko 5 is bad at all, it is a good watch for the money, just hasn't impressed me to the exception placed on it aesthetically or mechanically.
>>
>>55575209
is this copypasta? You're moaning about seeing too many seikos but then you suggest babby's-first-watch-collection tier brands?
>>
>>55575209
The reason Seiko 5's are so widely recommended, is because there are literally thousands of different styles, so there is something for everyone's taste, at a low price tag.

Grand Seikos I find are iffy, there are some hideous models, like the diver pictured earlier in this thread, then we have the Anon with the Highbeat 36000. Which is beautiful. If people are spending that kind of money, they're looking around for something they really like anyway, so you can hardly recommend one on the off. nor do people.

Nigga if you want me to start posting my slav watches you could just ask.

But this literally is newfag/retard tier post, since there is usually some variance in these threads. A.E some are more Seiko focused while some can be Swiss meme discussions but threads go where threads go.

(newer) Tissot is shit and the lower to mid end Orient's are mostly based on the same 1970's Seiko 7005 movement. Bulova precisionists are not that interesting as the older tuning fork models and the inhouse automatics from the 60's and 70's (Plus they are posted almost every thread. Rest of that shit you're spewed isn't even worth addressing.

Lurk more and think before posting.

Your post is quite funny, but yeah, as I said, in my experience, I have had better quality pieces, with larger power reserves, with higher accuracy, with higher quality finishes, with a more decorated movement, with a smoother rotor, with fully functional indicators, come from a few of my Miyota 8200 and 9000 series movements. You can try and dispute this, but this was a personal account. Regarding the Orient being based on a vintage Seiko movement, I wasn't really talking about vintage Seiko movements was I? Completely irrelevant.

Please elaborate on how Tissot is a bad value for the money considering they use ETA movements at the fraction of the cost that many larger and more expensive brands do.

Now, to elaborate on your Orient point, the 7005 was originally owned by Seiko, then modified by Orient and used in their timepieces. If you had any understanding whatsoever of what my post was about, if you weren't so autistic, you would understand I wasn't Seiko bashing, I was pointing out my experience with the Seiko 5 collection vs. some other contemporary Miyotas I have.

It honestly seems like you have a very basic understanding of watches in general. I never said that the Precisionist was comparable to the Tuning Fork, as they are two completely separate movements. But there is plenty to appreciate with the Bulova Precisionists. As far as I can tell, they are the only Quartz movement to operate at that high of a Frequency, and probably the best value for your money given it has an accuracy of +/- 10 seconds a year, though it is variable. Surprisingly, Bulova is, as far as I can tell, the only company in the industry, to do it at such a rate, how is that not interesting? Do you not have a basic understanding or appreciation for watches in general? Or is your pseudo-intelligent watch talk just something to cover up your lack of understanding and said appreciation?

The funny thing about my post, as I will continue, was that is was all anecdotal. And I certainly don't compare Seiko 5's to Grand Seikos, I was just talking about the watches I see most in these threads, which you cannot deny is the Seiko 5's.

I can suggest some sites to you if you are interested in learning more about some of the movements I admire, and just about all movements in general. Let me know.
Btw I do like your Poljot, never owned a Russian watch before however.

There's no need to cock about like a faggot on a high horse.

Anyhow, i wasn't trying bash Orient's quality what so ever and i've owned both some of their newer and vintage watches in the past. However their very common 469XX series movements are basically further upgraded 7005. Albiet with a separate day pusher and a slightly more efficient winding system. Are they magically 5000 times better than a Seiko 5? Not really. Are they great value for their money? Sure. An Orient shill would be much better than a Casio shill.

As far as Tissot goes (And most lower to mid end) Swiss manufacturers are concerned, they attempt to keep the costs low by making as much of the watch&movement outside of Switzerland. The Swiss law requires that at least a certain portion of the value of watch will be produced in Switzerland, meaning that a lot of these lower end will have a lot of bits and pieces that are Chinese made at a much lower price than producing them in Swizerland. Not to say that it's necessarily all bad since it helps to keep costs low, yet the loophole is that it's all about pricing. So if 95% of the movement is produced by the chinks at 30% of the overall costs and the Swiss-done rotor engraving is 60% of the value it passes under the law.

Hell, they even started producing the Speedmaster's bracelet in chinkland.

>It honestly seems like you have a very basic understanding of watches in general.
>If he doesn't like and or appreciate the same things i do he must be an autist.

The Precisionist series are fine, but the Tuning Fork's have a much more interesting allure to them. And the SD is also somewhat of a quartz watch (Not exactly for all you autistic weebs), while having a perfectly smooth sweep.
>>
>>55575890
>Please elaborate on how Tissot is a bad value for the money considering they use ETA movements at the fraction of the cost that many larger and more expensive brands do.
Just because a brand ebel or brietling will fleece you for some eta movement doesn't automatically make their deals good.

But if you want a brand new chronometer they are among the cheapest, with Mido.
>>
>>55575664
You can also get it DLC or ION BOND coated to look like this. The DLC/ION BOND is very cheap if the parts come disassembled($25). The waiting period is very long however, there's also plenty of shops that will mill your seiko to look a bit different.

Well, that is a general problem with these threads.

There are supposedly at least two professional watchmakers here but we never get to discuss the technology or even new complications.

Given the rapid advances in 3D printing, how long will it be before we can get a watch made to our own designs? OK, start with a pre-existing movement and then add layers for the complications we want.

A white faced Snoopy Speedmaster with moon phase complications would be irresistible to me. while what is on offer is no problem to resist.

Or even getting lume to design would be an enormous advance.

I doubt 3D printed materials are durable enough for building a movement.

>add layers for the complications we want.
Complications are complicated, anon. You'd need AT LEAST proper watchmaking education and a fair grasp of the physics, engineering and mathematics involved before you could even begin to design a movement complication, let alone a complete going train. At that point you could just construct parts in the traditional ways.

t. battery monkey/Seiko 5 and slavshit repairman/future proper watchmaker anon

>I doubt 3D printed materials are durable enough for building a movement.
Well, first of all the stated premise was to start with a pre-existing movement, exactly to overcome that rather obvious problem.

Moreover you can now 3D print glass and metal which should be durable enough.

>Complications are complicated, anon.
In other news water is wet, the sun rises in the East and scientists are suitably baffled.

>You'd need AT LEAST proper watchmaking education and a fair grasp of the physics, engineering and mathematics involved before you could even begin to design a movement complication, let alone a complete going train. At that point you could just construct parts in the traditional ways.

The going train is excluded, for now. What I am thinking of is more along the lines of assembly of existing parts such as full date with week number. Or a calendar display.

3D printed or wooden clocks are already available, many designs are pretty impressive and elegant. So people are able to do this.

I am not looking for putting watchmakers out of work, nor do I expect that anytime soon. Rather what I am looking for is embedding those works into custom designs.

That's your argument made reality right there.
If you are only spending $200 on a watch, it is because you do not want to, or are not comfortable spending more than that, so to add another $100 is insane at that point.

The SKX is solid, it looks good, is mod-able, and while the movement is not amazing, what more do you expect from a $200 watch?

Yeah I completely understand what you mean, and for around and under $100, they are great watches. The entire thing about seeing all the Seiko 5's was just rhetoric, I imagined some of this to happen. But yeah I completely understand, the rest was just personal experience and recommendation. I have no problems recommending Seiko 5 if people are on that budget.

>>55576152
The 5x was an exaggeration, of course I don't know the specifics, but again, personal experience, I have had better efficiency with the Orients.

I understand the issues you have with Tissot, but imo they are good value for the money. They house good movements, in some generally well built pieces.
I understand what you are getting at though, I own a Tissot Classic Dream with a metal band, and the band is horrendously cheap feelings, scratches super easily. But there a number of Tissots aside from their cheaper models that are fantastic, such as the Tissot Le Locle, I love the guilloche design, and built substantially better than the Dream. This is not to say that I endorse every watch a brand I recommend puts out, you probably understand.

I don't think there is much I can disagree with here, you are completely right, the vintage models with the tuning fork are without a doubt more interesting than the precisionists, if I could get my hands on the Space view, I would do it in a heartbeat.

>>55576187
Lol of course, not implying that, but it shows a movements value, or the value that other brands place on it. Mido is a bit more expensive than Tissot, but much better, I would take the Mido anyday, they still use ETA as they are owned by Swatch group, but they also don't endorse much or hire sponsors, so maybe.. Jist assumingly, they can put some of that marketing money back into the production of their watches. From what I have seen and heard, they have fantastic designs, great casings, and fantastic ETA movements. And some of their line is actually COSC certified.

This. Doesn't even need to be a dress watch. Classically styled military watches would also work (like B-uhrs/field/deck watches), as long as they have brushed or polished cases and is not too thick, and 40mm or smaller case width. With a navy suit, put brown leather straps on it. Brown and navy go together.

So the King Seiko is finally back from the watchmaker. This purchase has been such a pain in the ass so far. Firstly the stem popped out when I pulled out the crown to adjust, then the day wheel got stuck, then I found out the hacking lever is missing. Those issues are finally fixed now (the stem still pops out if i pull too hard so i need to be careful). However, the watchmaker told me the hair spring is a bit roughed and he couldn't fix it, after having almost a month to do the overhaul. It's already lost 8 seconds in the 5 hours I've been wearing it. Admittedly this watchmaker isn't very experienced with vintage Seikos (he's done my ETA pieces in the past with no issue). I'm trying to decide if i should just sell it (probably at a loss) and just get a new SARB, or bring it to another watchmaker and see what they can do (probably charge me an arm and a leg). Ugh.

Very bad. This looks like something I expect to see in the shop window of a cheap watch shop at the mall.

How about taking circular guilloche to its maximum? (slightly related I kind of like the finishing in IWCs newest calibers)

>>55586697
While the most technologically interesting Breguet or even swiss chronograph I've ever seen it's also the ugliest outside of some truly special AP abominations. Had they skipped the red accents and had less.. everything, it would've been pretty amazing.
>>
>>55586690
Will that's unfortunate
>>
>>55586756
It's pretty fine so it's not bad but still I feel pretty neutral to that watch overall. The lack of minute indices is personally a no-go for me.
>>
>>55586690
Bad indeed.

Could you recommend a good internet place, where I can buy original Casio F-91W (amazon dont deliver to my country)
>>
>>55587131

Do they not sell them in stores in whatever 3rd world country you reside in?
>>
>>55587131
eBay mostly.

Lots of trust worthy sellers.
>>
>>55584452
>>55583768
Where did you buy it from? If eBay you could probably argue to get some of your money back if the watch was sold as working, because the movement clearly is in very rough shape (a missing hacking lever is inexcusable). Vintage watches can be a crapshoot, which is why I am reluctant to buy them from anyone other than a few trusted eBay sellers.

It also helps to have a watchmaker who knows Seikos, because no matter how good you are on an ETA, if you've never seen an automatic Seiko in your life then you're not going to have a clue how to fix it properly.

Got a new strap which i don't really know how to use properlly on my bitch wrists. Don't know how to feel abuot the looks, is it too much blue?
>>
>>55587482
Yeah it was Ebay and the seller did refund me $50 for the hacking lever. At the time I thought the other issues would be easy to fix once I have the part (my watch maker quoted me $40), so I accepted. I ended up getting an overhaul just in case, but the timekeeping still couldn't be fixed. In hindsight I should have just returned it but it's too late now.
>>
>>55583768
I would give it a try to fix it, this is an one of a kind watch. If it doesn't work out you can always sell it.

Btw I did alot of effort too to get my old Pontiac Nageur running. It has an extremely modified eta 1702/03 movement which was a horror to get the Pontiac parts for, and to get it running smoothly. Now it runs about +0,5s/d.

Nice. Tuning forks are awesome.
>>
>>55588530
I think it looks nice. You could get a brown leather strap for it too.

Just spoke to the second watchmaker, who happens to be an Orient official service center (among other brands but not Seiko for some reason). He straight up said the movement is too old and rare to bother finding parts for, and advised me not to bother, lol. I will wait for the $20 balance assembly to arrive and give it one last shot.

Nice.

In my experience, that sort of response equates to the watchmaker does not want to work on the watch in question for any number of reasons. I would keep it up. Those King Seiko special chronometers are really nice and pretty dang rare so its worth getting restored. K. Seiya of Seiya Japan fame thinks they are nicer than the equivalent Grand Seiko of the time the 56GS. I'm kind of willing to take his word for it. I had to go three other watchmakers before I found anyone willing to work on my old Grand Seiko.

You are now aware of chronographs without subdials.

The chrono second hand and the normal second hand are just overlapped lol. Only good for <1 min timing w/o elapsed minute/hour hands?
>>
>>55590186
I think it has a central chrono minute hand, like on the rest of the Lemania 5100/emulated 5100 watches Sinn made.

What kind of sporty strap would go with muh 7018?

>>55588964
Anyone who says the movement is too old just really doesn't want to work on it. That's what the Seiko AD in Toronto said when I brought in my 6106,and because I didn't know the CAD /wt/ watchmaker at the time, I begged them to do it, and they ended up doing a really mediocre job.

I just feel so bad hearing your legitimate 52xx chronometer is such a bag of troubles when mine >>55571311 and several others on this board are basically chronometers and are running flawlessly.
>>
>>55590211
So it does away with the normal seconds hand. I see.

>>55590263
Yes.
