Is it possible for a computer running HomOSeX or Linux to get infected with malware without typing in your password when installing?
>tfw pirating Bettertouchtool is more complicated and risky than I thought

If there is some privilege escalation exploit, sure.

Contrary to popular belief, malware persistence (at least on Linux) doesn't require root privileges
And since you're probably running the OS on a single-user setup, chances are it won't even need to escalate privileges to do anything

and if there's not and I'm just pirating a very very comfy piece of software from an asshole developer who overcharges ?
I didn't have to type in any admin password. The only thing was that I allowed it accessibility privileges in the privacy settings.

WOW OPEN ROOTPIPE
>yet no one cares because no one got infected
>>55546597
well shit. How would I know if the pirated software had any exploits added? I also got little snitch installed but that didn't detect anything suspicious either..

Create a separate user account and write an apparmor/selinux policy or put it into a container/VM.
>>55546510
if you launch a script
anything could happen
>>55546618
To my understanding, Little Snitch is merely a glorified firewall, in which case it most likely won't detect more advanced methods of data exfiltration (e.g. over DNS, iodine-style, http://code.kryo.se/iodine/)
Short of comparing the cracked binary to the original and actually looking at the changes for yourself, there's not much you can do to check. If you downloaded it from a relatively reputable source, you should be fine.
