hey /g/ im looking to upgrade my single 1920x1200 monitor to something new with higher resolution. I only have space for a single monitor on my current desk setup. I'll eventually be buying a GTX 1080 to drive it with. I've been looking at ultrawides or a single 2560x1440 monitor. I haven't considered 4k as I don't feel a single 1080 has the grunt for it. What would you guys recommend. Its predominantly for productivity and work with a bit of gayman.

well IMO going from standard 1200 to to standard 144 is not worth it currently. Maybe ultra wide is. But I would hold to 1200 for some time until some nice reasonably priced Well at least the resolution is not your only problem.
OLEDs screens come out.

Why do you want a higher resolution monitor?

Because a 1080gpu is overkill for 1920x1080.
Also stuff looks nicer.

I bought myself an ultrawide a few weeks ago to replace my dual 1080p setup.
It is fucking awesome!
I will never switch back (at least if my budget allows it).

But when you're going to buy an ultrawide, you should get 3440x1440p panel within 34".

Also try to compare curved and noncurved in person.
I blindly bought a noncurved screen and I quickly realised what the benefit of a curved screen is.
Don't get me wrong. Noncurved is fucking awesome aswell

that was the plan, although they are very pricey im sure i wont regret it. A single 1080 should suffice to drive it right?

Yes. I currently own a EVGA 970 SC.
I can play every game but on medium settings.
So I ordered a 1080 which should arrive today oder tomorrow.
1080 will be perfect for the 1440p panel.
1080 SLI isn't widely supported by games anyway (yet)

Oh and when I say I can play every game at medium setting with my 970, I mean at around 50-60 fps

Well, I have memewide 1440p, and 1070 gives me 40fps in Witcher 3 with everything maxed. 1080 would probably push it to 60fps
