Is there any real benefit to upgrading to Skylark from Ivy Bridge?

My 3570k is a bad batch and gets warm at stock clocks on a 212 Evo.

CPUs are designed to get warm

Skylake*

Hits 73c when stress tested at stock on a 212 Evo, that's too warm to really OC

So do not OC. And no, there is no genuine reason to upgrade, unless a 5-10% performance increase is worth $300+ to you.

The performance difference will hardly be worth the upgrade. I would probably only do it if you are going to get one of the pricy CPUs that have a soldered IHS. Part of why your CPU is getting so warm is that everything after (but not including) Sandy Bridge cheaps out with TIM, which is terrible for temps.

Anon is right, but probably not for the reasons that anon thought - these CPUs _are_ designed to get warm, but more in the "intentionally crippled" rather than "robust enough to take the heat" sense.

Oh no not 73C!
you have 17C of headroom.

Doesn't help that ivy bridge had mayonnaise as TIM but there's still some room.

Not like overclocking is ever worth it nowdays. Paying extra for cooling, paying extra for the 'k version' chip, then paying extra for a better motherboard and you spent like 25% extra to get 3-5% extra out. Smart.
Overclocking is legacy nowadays, from the days in which you could scribble on your CPU with a pencil and it would perform like 50% faster.

I guess that makes me an oldfag then :/ I paid like not even 10% more for my 2500k, the same price for my overclocking p67 mobo, and am running 24/7 at almost 50% OC'd.

Hopefully Zen makes Intel get off their ass and start being competetive with performance again.
