Does anyone know what these kinds of websites are?
There's about a million and one of them, and they're all set up in the same way. A bunch of generic categories with a selection of thumbnails that only take you to a video 10% of the time. The other 90% of the time, they take you to a different website that's nearly identical to the first one.
They've been around for as long as I've been looking at porn, much to my annoyance. I've just now gotten curious about them, and /b/ was of no help. I blue-board-ified this screenshot for you, I know you've seen this kind of thing before. They all look like they were made by the same guy.
tl;dr wtf is up with these websites
It's an adclick scheme that banks on people being incredibly stupid, which they are.
By partnering with many ad networks (often as many as 10), they can make entire cents on the dollar per user.
People will keep clicking and following what they came for, opening 10 tabs + popunder ads with every click and inevitably installing viruses and drive by download trojans from ad networks that pay the owner/operator very well.
The images are scraped from free sources on the internet. These places exist to make the host money from ads and sell your now compromised computer to Russia.

Pretty sure it's for ad money by making each user open 5 or 6 links each time before giving up
I'm pretty sure that we have been calling these things adfarms since they started popping up in the mid 2000s.
And they are just that... Ad farms.
I worked out you can copy the link address of whatever thumbnail then remove the &=blahblah part and it will usually take you to the video
