Local electronics store, usually.
And if they don't have something I need, other online electronics stores.

I'm aware I'm probably getting ripped off, but I don't buy that many electronic components in the first place so it's not a substantial amount anyway.

Mouser or rsonline.

I filled out a free samples request and fairchild semi sent me $200 worth of free parts once.

When RadioShack stores shut down in my area I purchased a truck full of random electronics tools and hardware for 75%-90% off original price. Nowadays I just buy from Aamazon or Adafruit, or better yet Frys Electronics.

Well, another fine example of few people being truly in the /diy/ mindset here on /g/

there are a few places to get parts in bulk
digikey.com
jameco.com
mouser.com

amazon works fine for when you only need a few parts
>>
>>55534214

I could do that in 15 minutes with a screwdriver and a torch
>>
>>55538035
I've bought components individually from Mouser and Digikey, so bulk isn't necessary.

But yeah OP, generally speaking you have to look at the typical channels (mouser, digikey, etc) and sometimes you have to dig around other sites if you need something specific. One time I was restoring an old amplifier and I needed a specific transistor and none of the usual sites had it, so I had to order from Element 14 which I'd never even heard of.

That's cute

In Minneapolis we have this (ax-man surplus)
>>
/g/ is just a bunch of code-monkeys who cant do proper engineering like electronic. So no components needed here
>>
>>55539854
That's pretty cool that places like that still exist somewhere. My dad tells me that decades ago, electronic component shops were everywhere and Radio Shack put them all out of business. Then RS slowly got rid of the components and we all know where RS is now.

At least those specialized websites exist, and I don't think Amazon will put them out of business anytime soon because of the way you need to set up such a website.
