I do, but CPU timing in VMs is unreliable. Even if I did VM only, I'd have to give each guest 24gb of RAM. Not really a feasible setup. My VMs are 2-6gb a piece, and more for testing HA/DR features than query performance.

This. Ram is a dime a dozen now a days. Even ddr4. Local store has ddr4 kits ranging from 2400-3400mhz. The 8GB kits are usually less than $10 cheaper than their 16GB counterparts. Really no reason not to and if the $7-$11 difference is really breaking the bank, you have other problems that should be handled first.

Alot of people jumped into mechanical keyboards like its hot shit because of the 5 key shit or some n key shit, i started with mechanical keys back in 90s, hated that shit then membranes but still hated them due to small narrow finger surface area, then got myself some coolermaster scissors key slim keyboard, it was god sent as i use less strength for keystrokes and improved typing speed, then market just went chiclet shit then mechanical with narrow surface.

Wait a moment... Are there people who really think you don't need 16gb of RAM for enthusiast machines? 8gb does work fine for general purpose use but when I'm gaming, running VMs, or doing anything else that's intensive I find myself wishing I had 16.
8gb is solid if you're a run of the mill person who just uses your PC for social media, web browsing, and maybe typings something but it has quickly become too little for anyone who multitasks and pushes their machine in the slightest.

I almost fell for the '16GB of RAM meme': either my browser or VM used to crash because I only have 8GB. But then I remembered I disabled VRAM in Windows because my Samsung SSD driver said so in 2013. And now, with additional 6GB of virtual ram, I have no more crashes and saved around $50 bucks!
and btw, fuck Samsung! In the latests driver version, you have to agree to send them telemetry data or else you can't upgrade to the latest firmware. There won't be one for my 830 Series, but still.

I use a lot of intellij ide's and it would tip over 8gb pretty fast. And running gradle builds with more memory allocation speed them up. Running an Android emulator too definitely goes beyond 8.
