I want to install a BSD to learn and maybe eventually move away from Linux.
I'm debating between FreeBSD and OpenBSD. Other than go flip a coin is there a reason to pick one over the other?
I could be wrong, but my understanding is freebsd has more packages available, but openbsd is more "secure". I would choose freebsd, at least to get comfy with BSD. Maybe even pc-bsd which is just freebsd preconfigured for desktop usage.

NetBSD

OpenBSD is good it just doesn't handhold you at all. It is good for securing root, but doesn't do much to secure the applications in its binary tree.

OpenBSD's your best choice for a desktop or laptop, go FreeBSD for a server.
