I got one on AT&T a week ago. $33/mo and I can upgrade every year seems alright to me.
All the cases I look at are either big fucking bricks that negate the point of the curved screen or slim pieces of shit that offer no protection.
Also I'm not sure if there's even root yet. There's a thread about a bounty for it on XDA, but that's all I see right now.

Better is incredibly relative, to me the iPhone is a better flagship than the S7. To an Android purist, the Nexus 6P probably is. S7 is a great phone, it's got a load of good qualities with very few cons.

HTC 10 is the only real choice if you're on T-Mobile. I had a Galaxy S6 and I fucking hated all the Touchwiz bloat you have to disable, on top of nonexistent custom ROM support and Knox. Thankfully, T-Mobile still accepted my trade-in even with a tripped Knox counter. Camera was fantastic though.

There is verizon bloatware of course. The standard bullshit like messaging+ and VZW navigator but they can all be disabled
