LG Quadbeat 3 that came with my G4 just busted. Convenient stuff like the braided cord and the Android-compatible buttons are nice if I can get it. Honestly I'll just buy quadbeats if nothing fits the criteria I mentioned.

So the dude in the last thread got me thinking, can I use the EQ in MusicBee to mellow out the DT880 (600) when listening to rock music? Like I said, it's literally unbelievably good while listening to classical, jazz, easy listening, and Deadmau5 type EDM, but it's exceptionally harsh listening to rock music (I.e ACDC, GNR, Aerosmith, and even softer rock like the Kinks). Basically what's the ideal EQ setting to mellow out the harsh treble
>>
>>55501849
You need a better EQ than the one MusicBee has. Get Equalizer APO and tone 5-6 kHz down.
>>
>>55501849
Use EQ APO and Peace GUI. DT880 has a peak at 10k rising from 5k according to IF, so reduce there.
>>
>>55501878
>5-6 kHz down
DT 880 not HD800.

>>55501849
Tone down 8-9kHz. This is where the peak is most common on the DT 880.

Thanks for the info guys. I'm relatively new to the whole audiophile setting, and I can't say I'm entirely proficient with EQing shit yet. When you say tone down 8-9kHz, should I do so relative to me perception or is there a set decibel amount I should use?

Seems like the better place to ask than sqt. Is it normal for headphones to always sound a bit louder in the right ear for most tracks? It doesn't appear to be my hearing at fault and it happens on multiple devices and headphones.
>>
>>55501976
Yes, that's channel imbalance. It's a QC issue.
>>

I'm afraid that's a viable alternative. Do you have the HD600? Can you compare to the DT880?

kek

Hybrid would introduce some leak some, so less bass, whereas the normal HM5 would boost the bass because it's more sealed. Assuming you have stock pads, from all the images that I see, they seem very thin and HM5 pads are quite large, so some crazy things might happen in the treble like the introduction of peaks.

Can I ask a silly audio question here?

See, I want sum 5.1 audio for my pc, and I've seen quite the sweet deal on a pioneer 5.1 set (S-HS100) which is getting nice reviews and all.

This set has only a line in to connect stuff into it, now now, I would assume I need a receiver, but I don't have a receiver, so I'm going to ask.

Assuming I connect my 5.1 and 7.1 compliant audio device's audio out with this audio in, will I be set and getting 5.1 surround already or do I really need the receiver?
>>
>>55503398
They are warm/bassy more than neutral. The scale, smoothing and target on the FR graph are silly.
>>
>>55503780
That 5.1 set is likely terrible and your question depends on the connections available for that loudspeaker system. From a quick glance it looks like the subwoofer is an active design so you plug that to a subwoofer out on your receiver or alternatively line level out depending on how are you going to be controlling the volume. Subwoofer out is a better option. As for the toy satellites, they seem to be passive so you need to have a 5 channel receiver/integrated amplifier.

Never mind the scale and the massive smoothing, they may as well have had kindergartners finger paint the lines for all the applicability it has. Even if it was representative of its sound, the large swings make it very colored.

HF series is about the same as the ER-4PT.
Rin Choi has a second opinion of the RHA 750 on his blog. Has measurements of the HF model and old ER-4 as well.

Audiophile lingo lacking definition and could probably be interpreted in many ways. I'd say frequency response(the more linear the better), distortion(the lower the better) and noise(the lower the better) but I have a feeling the people making that statement think there's something else to the sound than FR and the nonlinearities.

Seriously interesting but I'm not holding my breath about them being able to calibrate your anatomy accurately and create a working transfer function out of it to model response at the eardrum. The concept is good and they have some interesting ideas like using multiple drivers for beam forming to avoid positional variance and thus allowing much more consistent DSP in higher frequencies.

Price point, looks, lack of marketing as well as the allergic to science audiophile market which generally buys personal audio products of this price point are likely the majority of reasons why those never took off. 4P is a bit dark if anything. Distinct treble rolloff, slightly midbassy.
4S is still kinda treble recessed. If you really want to push the issue, the hump is reduced, and you could also call it slightly rolled off bass.
4B is actually bright. One the few things I can think of that is bright that doesn't try to offset with boosted bass.

I actually hated the blue marble look before I bought them but they've grown on me over time and I now like them aesthetically.

They're the first high end headphone i've ever owned that don't need an EQ to fix anything. They're great for every genre. Clearly some headphones will be better than these for a genre here or there but non can compete with these as an overall headphone imo.

Heard the closed. Sounds like absolute shit.
You know the thing about "it sounds like I'm actually there!!!", well the EL8 did the exact opposite. Everything sounded retarded, artificial if you will. I can probably blame that on the fact that it's completely missing 5-9khz.

Hifiman is more of a mixed bag. I like the HE400i but the HE1000 has the most fucked up build quality vs the price tag. That's a real disgrace.

I was considering the 650's also when I bought these but in the end I trusted the opinions of other well known 'headphone people' and bought the 600's. The 650's apparently have a tiny bit more bass but they lack in detail compared to the 600's. The 600's are bassy enough, put it this way my brother had fidelio x2's because he wanted bass and 'fun' and he loved them, as soon as he heard my 600's he sold his x2's and bought a pair himself.

They're the best headphone i've ever tried, they're not as wide in soundstage as the 702 for example but they just sound correct with the perfect mount of weight. Listening to music is amazing again.

HD668B was fine at first but once you keep them on for more than 30 minutes the top of your skulled feels pierced on the two "pillows" and your ears feel crushed, if you take them off then you won't put them on again because it's uncomfy af

I don't want to be too uncomfortable. I know the difference between bad and good sound, but I value comfort more. So let's call it a 60/40 weighting between comfort and quality if that makes sense.

I've used a lot of cheap ass headphones, most recently was some sony one for $20. The biggest issue I have is that my headphones NEVER last. I'm lucky to get a month out of a pair of headphones. Always, invariably, one headphone blows out and I'm stuck with one ear to listen with.

Could you guys recommend me a set of headphones, and PLEASE tell me some ways I can better take care of my headphones? I don't want to constantly drop money on headphones. I have other things I need to spend money on.

There's talk of a revision lately. Not sure how to distinguish new from old models.
People made a big deal about the EL-8 treble hole, but it's really more like Audeze's sound signature taken to its logical conclusion. LCD4 sounds like EL8, except the hole is just a dip.

Heard the EL8 and other Audezes at the launch promo event. Open version is extremely flat below 1 kHz, before the high frequency sinkhole shows up. Recovers into the top octave.
I remember listening the EL8 closed, and much like the LCD-XC next to it, I thought it to be much worse than its open counterpart, more uneven bass and midrange, and ruining the things that were redeemable about them.

>difference in response speed
Most of the time, that's the FR. The thing that most closely relates to "speed" as it might usually be defined is high frequency extension.

>>55519953
I be more partial to the MrSpeakers Ether than any of the other flat dyanmics on the market, and I don't like the Ether that much.

Hifiman quality control is sketchy and they wouldn't know a well assembled product if it smacked them in the face. Even so, the 400i represents a nice choice. 560 FR is flatter overall, but it isn't built better, and the treble gets spikier. HE1000 is made from insect screen and a thin layer of plywood.
Pic related.

HE1000 teardown:

Audeze makes plenty of screw ups as well, and the LCD3 teardown showed off a lot of them. Some feedback on return rate from users and dealers makes me reticent of buying into the upper range, although that focused on LCD-3. The strong similarity between models, much like Stax, makes it harder to justify the higher priced models.

>>55518717
The Focal sets are their "we didn't actually mean for you to buy that" phase because Focal realized at the last second they had a production issue with the new headphones.

This current post is probing advice for my gf, but I personally have M50s which i really like for the price I paid. ($100)
And I had superlux hd681s before. Which were alright, but of course those are like $20.

>>
>>55528307
You don't really need one but a Fiio E10k would be fine.
>>
>>55528331
I saw some reviews saying you needed an amp to get more volume since they were really quiet out of the box...
If I won't "really" need one, am I good with a Fiio K1? I'm really in a budget here.
>>
>>55528488
No idea where you heard that they're quiet out of the box...they get plenty loud by themselves. You really don't need to worry about an external amp/dac if your budget doesn't allow for it but that Fiio would work.

Finally getting rid of these bumps. What's a good solution for lining the bottom of the headband?

Never understood the reason behind the bumps. My K601 are fucking comfy without anything there.
>>

Not neutral and very colored frequency response, harsh sounding, sibilant, muddy, recessed midrange.

HD800 is a joke, I can't believe how audiophiles still fall for that shit.

It's supremely comfortable and features a premium construction (it scratches easily though) and aesthetic. Which is probably more important to audiophiles than the actual sound quality itself.

Need some advice /g/, i have turtlebeach X12's paired with the dolby sound processor i use for my computer, i bought the processor separate from headphones so i can keep it. The headset was bought from bestbuy with the extended warranty i have been renewing for the last 3 years. My question is when i return these for replacement what should i upgrade to instead of getting same shit i have been getting last few years. I would like to implement the dolby processor if it's even good, i don't need it to have a mic since i use a cheap usb mic for communication budget is about 150 bucks. TLDR what heaphone does /g/ suggest, thanks.

I just bought some ak k141 for almost nothing on eBay. My only Problem is, that the cushions/ earpads are extremely uncomforrable. Any idea where I could buy different ones?
>>
>>55529946
Yeah it was definitely a mistake. I guess they felt compelled to make something different apart from the colour for the Quincey series.

I'm not sure, I guess warm with good bass, but not overbearing, super detailed mid range, but rolled off treble since I'm sensitive there.
>Past headphones
Have fostex t40rp mk3's with hm5 pads. I like them, but they feel sharp and the bass is less impactful than I'd like. When a song has a shit ton of bass and I can actually feel it they sound sweet. But they don't seem full to me and being closed wears me out fast.

I've had my X2s for a good while and just today got my hands on the MSR7 today.

Went a bit over my budget and got them primarily for portability not as a replacement, wasn't expecting them to be more pleasing to my ears than the X2s since MSR7 are more on the neutral side.

Was worried the treble would be fatiguing but that doesn't seem to be the case for me.Pretty happy with them so far. I don't even need to break them in to get used to the sound signature.

MSR7 is not very comfy for long sessions though, it irritates my ears and jaw after a good while. Otherwise I would be using them a lot more often.
On the other hand I can slide the X2s on all day without any discomfort whatsoever.

So did anyone using the MSR7 for a good while notice the pads loosen? They are fairly stiff, was hoping I can save some money by not replacing the stock pads.

HM5 pads would probably be way comfier.

Considering the sony mdr7510 but I really have no idea
>>
How comfortable are the hd600s? My ears bend outward which causes them to touch the drivers.
>>
>>55534761
Initially you'll likely feel a bit of clamp force but it adjusts over time (or you can speed up the process but sticking it onto some books about the same width) and become comfortable enough to be nigh forgettable you even have them on.
>>
>>55534761
Extremely comfortable but it's not very large inside. Since you're an elf you may want to consider a headphone that has more spacious earcups.

>>55534734
MDR-7506 is what you want.
>>
>>55534821
hey, thanks for your response. What is the difference between 7506 and 7510? Aphex said the [sony 7510] are "not the best pair of headphones for listening to music but to write/mix on, ive never heard anything as good as those yet."

This was a few years ago, also is there anything in a slightly higher price range I should consider that is similar to the MDR-7506's or maybe has a balance between using for listening and mixing? Thanks for your help

>Ath ad 700x just broke
>it was my 2nd pair that broke
Fucking hell
First pair the connector just wore down over time. Took like 2 years but whatever. My biggest complaint was that it bends at the top so that this becomes inevitable, seems like it's not made to be plugged in vertically or something.
Besides that my biggest problem was that the cable naturally curled and twisted a LOT, more than any other cable for headphones, mics, pretty much anything for that matter. Felt like I nearly tripped a few times.
But whatever, I enjoyed the 2 years, decided to try it again.
Well after 6 months this time I did trip over it. Fell, computer nearly came tumbling down if I didn't catch it on my way down as well. Problem is the connector broke, and my headphone jack itself also broke. Think I'm done with this brand, the cable quality is just too poor.

So now I'm looking for couple of recommendations.
1. Good soundstage headphones between $70 and $150
2. A good cheap usb amplifier (mostly just a converter that won't fuck the sound quality) since my headphone jack is fucked.
>>
>>55534980
>A good cheap usb amplifier
>usb
I assume you mean a DAC or DAC/Amp combo. Take a look at the e10k?
>>
>>55534980
Just replace the cable?
>>
>>55534761
For me they are superbly comfortable but I have small-ish ears. For larger ears the pads are a bit small so yours might be touching the driver driver housing or the inside of the pads. You better try them out somewhere as comfort is subjective.
>>
>>55534995
>>55534995
Yea, that's it. Thanks for the recommendation.

>>55535030
I looked into it pretty hard last time the cable got fucked but found that there's no way to get a replacement cable for this particular pair. I also don't know anyone that could do the soldering, nor do I have the tools to do so myself, so it'd just be cheaper to find a different pair of headphones, preferably one that has an easily replaceable cable so this problem never occurs again too.

Okay after looking into it I think the thing that is closest to what I'm looking for is the HD558. Hopefully that works out.

For those that have tried both, how's the soundstage on Sennheiser's HD558 compared to Audio Technica's ad700x?
