Why did MySpace fail/get replaced by Facebook? And why hasn't the same happened to Facebook yet? Is Facebook going to remain the "thing" forever?

It's reign is already much longer than Myspaces.

Facebook managed to score that precious generation X/baby boomer user base, which no other social media did before, and they're too stupid to move to another social network for minor issues like "privacy" or "usability" or "feature creep".
>>
>>55499861
when instagram was about to kill facebook, zuckerburger bought it and fucked its shit up
>>
>>55499905
i know plenty of people who deactivated their accounts or won't install the app, normies could turn on facebook at some point
>>
MySpace failed becuase of the obvious: allowing people to customize everything about their profile created inconsistent layouts and some made their profiles memory hogs (I recall an Asian female that had 20 youtube videos on it)

Facebook has the majority of the world on it, Normie's even tech illiterate people have a Facebook.

I'd say we're stuck with it for a good while.

don't forget they didn't even have a "news feed"......kek

it was some weird bulletin system IIRC. just weird in general, inconsistent, "top 8" friends and shit. sort've childish

facebook definitely was at first "targeted" towards universities and college in its setup and design. the look was very clean and academic, very white, minimal. trying to think of a feature that clinched it tho.......was it the like button?
>>
I hated Myspace back then but now I miss the shit out of it. Facebook is so sterile. Exploring Myspace pages was almost geocities-esque since everyone injected their personalities into the design.

Found so much cool music and shit through it too, RIP.
>>
>>55499950
they already have.

problem is people feel cut off and go back but i just keep my original account as a ghost and dont use it.
>>55500139
Yeah Facebook was a true Gen Y hole it was fun but it aged terribly the UI was craptastic but the music and almost geocities ytmnd feel was great i do remember that

RIP Mynormies

>Why did MySpace fail/get replaced by Facebook?
jews desfu fampai. but nah there was an over the top level of narcissism and drama that came with myspace that instagram/twitter dont even come close to matching. facebook crushed that by not allowing super customizable/more simple profiles which diluted the userbase (older more mature users) and less speshul snowflake profiles where people devoted theres lives to their profiles at the expense of everything else (being internet famous via myspace actually predates youtube by a bit)

>And why hasn't the same happened to Facebook yet?
obviously cause there's money involved considering adds and shit

>Is Facebook going to remain the "thing" forever?
maybe itll make minor changes and eventually become something completely different than then what it was originally but still have an easily followable path you follow back to its original state (given someone bothers to keep track)
>>
>>55499861
Fun fact: Myspace is still there, and if you didn't delete it, so's your old profile.
>>
>>55501177
even hi5 is still there
>>
>>55499861
IIRC it is the newsfeed, and the gaymes that helped Facebook become the dominant social media website. Today, most of the users doesn't want fb games, but they are addicted to the newsfeed.

>Is Facebook going to remain the "thing" forever

it was a lightning in a bottle, i don't think anyone will be able to reproduce the success fb had, my money would be on something more mobile friendly. normies of the future will browse the web on tablets only and fb will be too bloated by then.

People make this mistake everytime something is successful

fb is buying out anything that could replace it

The only thing to use facebook for now is messenger and Cuckerberg knows it. It's reign is so long because they buy out everyone else.

Whatsapp would have finished them so they bought it out and they are still trying to eliminate snapchat which isn't going to happen because Cuckrberg has no idea why people use it in the first place.

Myspace primarily failed because it was shit. It was a truly truly shit website. It was full of spam, malware, phishing attacks, porn and bots. When facebook came along, compared to myspace at the time it was about 100,000 times better. Looked better, worked better and had no ads, MySpace was ad ridden as fuck from the very beginning. Myspace for being primarily a social networking site really had no idea what social networking was.

Beyond relentless acquisitions though Facebook has developed itself into a platform and has tens of thousands of devs and people who need it for their businesses whereas Myspace was just a website. The platform is going nowhere either. The smartest thing Cuck ever did after jewing his friends.

The thing that scares me about facebook, and google, is that if they ever decide to get out of the 'business' of managing other people's data, there's no legal requirement for them to make it easy for people to get their fucking information back from them!

Meaning they would delete billions of photos and minutes of video with just some bullshit like a 30 day notice. Shit has happened before with Geocities, and almost with Google Video before they were shamed into adding the migrate to Youtube button.

Tom became a sell out to the music industry basically. There was WAY too much customazing going inside of it's settings where you could make it basically an annoying tumblr page. It was ok for the time being but it got really out of hand.

Considering that when you would goto myspace, they would always have cascada or some emo song playing in the background (I have everytime we touch).

Reading a few of the replies on here, they aren't wrong. The issue was that myspace was overran by too much to do on it and allowed to much. Facebook restricts the access of customizing. At most, you can change your avatar, your name, your sir name, your basic info, your header and a few other things. but most of this is grouped. you can't throw it everywhere. People of the internet need a restriction to what they can do or chaos will break out.Plus myspace at some point was getting dumb. I said I wouldn't get a snapchat, but knowing me, it's only a matter of time. I had a tumblr but everytime I logged on I felt like a tumblr whore who complained about the dumbest shit possible. So I deleted it.

Like button, later comment threads, and later the chat feature all helped.
>>
The kids aren't using facebook, they're using kik and snapchat and whatever the hell is the latest app. It's for "old people".
>>
MySpace failed because of the huge holes in security that fucked loads of people over
