I have a Nexus 7. It's alright for a back up but I feel like a 11 inch laptop would be more useful. An Android smartphone is better than tablets other than the small screens

You're better off buying a Nexus 6 and using it as a mini tablet. It's 6 inches and has support for all kinds of ROMs.
