The GPL doesn't disallow selling anything, but it does make sure that if somebody decides to sell software you made, they have to also give something back (that is, the modified source.) Which is opposite to permissive licenses, where one can simply take what you have made, build on top of that and reek all the benefits to themselves, never releasing any of the changes they made to your software.
