For me the homescreen should just be a splash screen of sorts. I go there and it shows me relevant info (time, date, alarms, weather) and on the bottom I have folders that have shit I use most often.
It's most convenient to have them on the bottom bar. I would put more on my homescreen but I have no reason to.
