since i use vim and i3 8-10 because i'm really lazzy.
back before that it was more like 6-8 and constant switching away from the right side of the keyboard to the mouse. funny thing is: i can't go back to that shit.
when i take my hands of the homerow i start to feel bad and try to replace what ever program made this necessary.

All 10 on home row, I learned to touch type in high school.
Before that, I used to type very fast but just in my own disorganized way, learning touch typing was actually worth it.
The only bad thing is people notice that you are able to continue typing even while looking away, or while you are doing something else, this can be both good or bad depending on the context it is in. Some will think you're just a nerd, others I've met who are already well into their adult years recognized you were taught in a class setting since they're old enough to remember that being a thing
