What exactly is going on here? Does it use a connector extension, or is this a shopped card?

I seriously don't know which is the worse value.

In one hand you got the 3GB model with a 192-bit bus. Thats a great match you say, sadly most games nowadays uses way more than 3GB of VRAM. (Mirrors Edge Catalyst using up to 7GB)

And theres the 6GB version which im sorry, I don't give a shit how good is your image compassion method (Which I swear just a buzzword) 192-bit bus will be bottleneck.

Also the GTX 960 had only 6pins as well and it didn't considered housefire
>>
>>55453552

Another problem is if the 6gb gets a $299 msrp like some people suggest, it sits way too close to the 1070
>>
>>55453269
Bizarrely, it appears to be real. The power connector seems to actually be integrated into the extended shroud, rather than on the PCB. More pics here: http://techfrag.com/2016/07/05/nvidia-geforce-gtx-1060-leaked-pics/

Lawsuit incoming
>>
>>55453552
I'm sure they'll pair it with high frequency memory. Bandwidth will be sufficient. The 960 performed fine for 1080p and it's 128b.

Go to acu benchmarks and say that again.
>>
>>55453552
192 GB/s is enough.
>>
>>55453552

Thanks for proving you have no idea what you're talking about.

>connector extension
Just wires from the cards pcb to the connector.
>>
>>55454625
Then fucking explain why the fuck is the 980 doing worse in 1440p/4k titles than the r9 390x... When in 1080p it kills the radeon (even in dx11)
>>
>>55455596
You can't play 4k games on either 390X or 980.
>>
>>55455596
Oh and r9 390x has 8GB of memory while 980 has 4GB. Might have something to do with it. Just saying.
>>
>>55455622
You can, but not on ultra high. Also there are some competive casual stuff as well

>>55455649
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t4uUgIkFa8o

Sure clearly, more VRAM is the reason
>>
>>55455688
If it's all down to the bus width, then why does Titan X stomp the 390X? It has a significantly smaller bus.

Either way you're not making a point no matter how you spin it because you're talking about GTX 1060 which can't play 4k games. No, the 980 can't either. Fuck off with "casual all settings on low" that's stupid.
>>
>>55455596
Amd gpus are typically more powerful cards with high resolutions in mind, at 1080 the cards aren't being sufficiently loaded because of the dx11 driver overhead. Seriously..

Nvidia = pretty pictures with high speed serial processing and a magical driver that works around dx11 shitty specs.

Amd = high power / compute with strong parallel workloads that unfortunately lacks said magical dx11 multithreading drivers.

>>55455622
>>55455732
By that argument most cards can't even play 1080 because they're not able to run Witcher 3 on ultra settings at 60fps. Even though there is very little visual difference between ultra and high settings despite a disproportionate performance hit.
>>
>>55455732

Titan X performs good because well its the fucking Titan X.

Bigger Bit rate bus=Better performance in more VRAM demanding stuff.

And that just not resolution related stuff. Some newer games like Mirrors Edge Catalyst or Doom uses more VRAM even in 1080p.

Not sure why do you need to defend your brand royalty stuff, even if it only has this flaw. The game uses more VRAM, and the wider Bus allows it to fucking get it faster.

Do you know what is Image Compression even mean? Do you know that its a fucking process, therefor it needs system resource for that, essentially lowering the PC performance and causing frame delay (Even if thats not noticeable) ?
>>
>>55455792
Most GPUs literally aren't. You have to SLI or Crossfire to run 4k with any degree of reliability. You're not going to fucking SLI 1060s if you have a brain. Now are you? They are exactly the 1080 cut in half.

>>55455806
Because your demands are irrational. You're demanding a wider bus from a card where it serves no purpose. What the fuck is brand royalty by the way, are we talking about Nvidia and AMD kangz and shit now?

Also, all modern cards use image compression. Even older cards use, it's just the newer compression methods are more efficient.
So your muh compression falls on deaf ears, because you're more than 10 years late to argue against it.
>>
>>55455850
Well clearly Nvidia doing a really great job in image compression than jew out the extra VRAM.

I don't have any demands. I think Nvidia choice yet again stupid. Having a 192bit wide bus is fucking stupid. Even on fucking 3GB. We saw this before, it didn't worked out with Nvidia.
>>
>>55455879
It's not fucking stupid you tech illiterate moron. 192bits vs 256bits saves 2 memory controllers worth of transistors making the chip smaller and easier to manufacture and reducing power consumption.

Idiots like you were calling the GTX 980 shit when it was released for having 256bits of bus width, why aren't you shitting on that and the RX 480 anymore? Both of those have 256bits of memory bus width which is significantly less than R9 290x and GTX 780 Ti.
Or how about the 1080? It also has 256bit bus, 128 bits or 4 memory controllers worth less than the Titan X and 780 Ti.

Maybe it's because you're exhibiting a knee jerk reaction to something you don't understand?
>>
>>55453269
Is there no sli bridge?
>>
>>55455954
SLI is fucking stupid
If you actually want to SLI a card you should shoot yourself in the fucking head instead
>>
>>55453716
>what if star destroyer was millenium falcon?
lmao
>>
>>55455964
AMD cards can crossfire for the same price bracket. Regardless multi gpu is getting better in dx12.
>>
>>55455993
SLI and Crossfire are for DX11. Are they even relevant for DX12? I don't think they are.
>>
>>55455879
For one, point out where the fuck the 3gb version is. I don't think there is going to be one, there has never been proof.

2. If bus width is so damn important why does a GTX 1080 with 256 bit shit on a Fury X with 4096 bit at all resolutions? Its almost like bus width is not comparable between manufacturers, let alone generations of cards.
>>
>>55455993
Not like it will really change. It is only like 1% of the market iirc, 300k units. So really, less than 150k systems. That wont change to be the majority for a long while.
>>
>bored, browsing through anandtech's forums
>people are chanting $199 for the 3gb one and 249 for 6gb

Slides literally said "starts at $249", I don't know where they are getting these numbers from
>>
>>55456041
Yes I assumed it worked not over the sli bridge. As in each gpu can be addressed individually, each used for separate tasks.
>>
>>55455850
>You're not going to fucking SLI 1060s if you have a brain. Now are you? They are exactly the 1080 cut in half.
You're not going to SLI 1060s even if you wanted to, because it's impossible. The 1060 lacks SLI support.
>>
>>55455954
Nope. It seems that there will not be any SLI for 1060s
>>
>>55456257
No it doesn't.
>>
>>55456365
>No SLI connector on 1060
Yes, it very much lacks SLI support.
>>
>>55456408
From the information that is available, 6gb version supports sli. You are still a fucking retard if you sli it BTW.
>>
>>55455850
It depends on the game and your willingness to turn down and optimize your settings. I can run world of warships in 4k with med-high settings at a solid 45 fps on a 7950. For a game like that, those are solid playable framerates. Not optimal, but playable. Do I typically play at that resolution? No, I opt for 1440 so I can have higher framerates, refresh, and the gui doesn't have a scaling option. But it's overall not a terrible experience since the high resolution greatly reduces aliasing on all of the ships' tension lines. It's also pretty great for emulation.

This is also coming from someone who refuses to watch his Chinese cartoons below 60 fps. I only settle for that when I don't have a high enough quality source to get clean 120 fps.
>>
can some elec engi just tell me if this means anything

why take the 6pin off the board?
>>
>>55458341
My guess is that the actual connector faces out from the back of the card, so they used an extension and mounted it facing out the top for easy installation.
>>
>>55454481
is that before or after the -0.5gb of ram?
>>
>>55455954
no. sli is limited to 1070 and above now.

you want that sli you gotta pay the premium goy.
>>
>>55453269
goodbye waterblocks
>>
>>55458341
people bitched how the connector was near the center of the board instead of being in the back with previous cooler designs.

so nvidia made it that the connector is connected to the fan in the back.

now people are bitching about the connector being on the fan instead on the board because it makes it near impossible now to slap on an aftermarket cooler and water block.
>>
>>55458653
they could just make the pcb bigger but they are lazy cucks.
