So /g/.
Now that the aftermarket 1070s are out, which brand is the best in terms of pure performance and heat dissipation?
All of the reviews I've read put them very close to each other and I've mostly seen EVGA and MSI being recommended with Gigabyte being surprisingly left out even though it was the first brand I was looking at.
What did you guys go for/what do you recommend?
>>55440661
just buy the cheaper you can get, makes no sense to take the "best 1070 hurr durr" for 50$ less than a 1080.
>>55440694
In my country they're all around the same price, even the founder's editions. All around 530 euro.
>>55440694
This.
Talking 1-4 FPS difference between card manufacturers.
Zotac for performance.
Gigabyte for reliability.
EVGA for warranty and aesthetics
even though i think the zotac looks pretty rad and they do 2 AMP edition and AMP edition extreme with different fan compliments.
>>55440661
One of these.
>>55440756
Even that 1-4 FPS is worth it considering they're all the same price. I just want to get the best performance/reliability out of the card.
>>55440759
Huh. I didn't expect Zotac to be a contender. Do their cards run hotter than the rest?
It's surprising a brand that's nowhere near as big as ASUS or MSI gets mentioned over them.
>>55440789
MSI and ASUS are awful, anyone on /g/ knows this.
>>55440842
That's the thing though, I thought Gigabyte would be the best because of this and yet they're not recommended anywhere. On the other hand I've seen MSI recommended often so I thought they may have gotten their shit together for the 1070.
>>55440866
MSI are recommended they are a massive meme on /v/
>>55440913
I actually haven't looked at any 1070-related /v/ threads. I mostly googled reviews.
They are all almost completely the same. All hit a core OC wall at ~2063, all stay pretty much quiet( CPU fan noise is likely to drown the GPU fans ) and different models are within like 3dB. Biggest difference is how the memory OCs but that's not very dependent on manufacturer and is a lottery.
Unless MSI lightning or EVGA classified come out, everything else can be chosen purely based on aesthetics. And if those two are too expensive it won't be worth it, since top OC will remain pretty much the same and you'd be better off spending some extra bucks on the cheaper non-reference 1080 models.
>>55440930
msi's red dragon cooler appeals to most of /v/'s GAMUR population because they all have tons of RED LEDS in their gaming rigs.
>>55441033
I would but the 1080 is ~700-800 euro as opposed to 530.
Europe is suffering.
>>55441079
You need to leave the eu just like the uk did with brexit. EU is cesspool of bureaucratic bullshit.
>>55441146
It's even more expensive in the UK.
And they haven't left yet it was just a referendum.
Either way it wouldn't help, they'd still have to import from America and then make a profit which inflates the prices regardless of EU, if anything being in the EU may make them cheaper due to trade agreements.
>>55440789
Zotac cards run hot from my experience and generally clock lower too, my 970 runs 75C under load at just 1100 mhz
>>55441079
>>55441079
the pound is so fucked you should buy from Amazon UK, I preordered a card at £390 and expected to pay around €500 but it has dropped to 450 already, it'll probably be 440 when it ships on monday
>>55441207
I'll keep that in mind. May be a good idea.
Thank you.
>>55441245
make sure to select GBP as your preferred currency at check out, they bill you in Euro by default
always go gigabyte, the evga meme has to die desu.
>>55441266
Wouldn't it be the same thing? Don't they just adjust the rates due to currency exchange?
>>55441283
lol
>>55441297
I haven't used Amazon UK since they got rid of the super saver delivery to other EU countries.
>>55441283
Amazon/Paypal/etc set their own rates and they tend to lag behind the banks by a few days/weeks

I see. Thank you for clearing that up.
>>55440661
You have the same thread on /v/ fuck off
>>55441319

>>55441359
If there is a thread on /v/ that's the same as it is, it's not me.
Even if it were I don't see how that changes anything.
>>55441370
That's pretty fucked up. Good to know.
>tfw still waiting on galax's 1080 hof cuz i'm a sucker for white
it sucks being a slave for aesthetics
I have a Gigabyte 1070 GTX G1 and it's great.
g1, msi gaming, strix, and amp extreme are all going to be the same brah. Msi armor, evga, the normal amp are going to be only a little better than ref. I can't find any reviews of the cheap $399 windforce but its so out of stock it might as well not exist anyway.
>>55441492
>>55440661
Price/performance is the only thing that matters anon. You have better options next year the every year after.
Going all out is a fools game.
>>55440712
>buying a 1070 for 530€
>>55441664
I still have a 6950 that I bought 5 years ago(along with all the other parts). I believe in splurging so I don't have to upgrade for years afterwards. The 6950 was mid tier back when I bought it.
Bought an MSI 1070, it's fine. Cooler is pretty quite and it came with a backplate. Things fucking huge though.
Really you can't go wrong with any of them, personally I would have bought the $399.99 Gigabyte one because it's cheaper and they all run virtually the same but that wasn't going to be back in stock for 2 more weeks, and $60 extra means nothing to me.
But yeah:
Either buy it cheap, buy it with overclocking potential in mind, or buy it with cooling in mind. Never buy for aesthetic, because who the fuck cares. Back in my day these fucking things were ugly green PCBs with shitty little aluminum coolers and crappy fans on them and we liked it god damn it.
>>55441942
Thank you for your input.
I heard the Gigabyte one's got shitty fans, care to confirm?
>>55440661
I've always trusted gigabyte so I think that would be a good blind buy. I bought the MSI version because it's the only thing I could find in stock so we'll see how it goes. The MSI version looks pretty sick so I'm hoping it performs well.
>>55440661
I think the look of the card is more important than 1degreeC of difference in performance lol. Just get the card that matches the rest of your parts and makes your computer look EPIC
Gainward any good?
>>55440787
>399$
