For maybe 3% better performance:
-You are paying $40 more
-You are getting SIGNIFICANTLY worse DX12 performance
-A bare minimum framebuffer size
-A card that has passed its peak, performance will only decrease
-Getting worse performance per watt
-Getting last generations technology
-Getting worse >1080P performance

If you choose a 970 over a 480, you are a blatant shill and there is no denying that. You are choosing a far inferior product due to brand name.

The 480 has increased tesselation performance to combat gameworks.

And AMD has all the console hardware. Any XB1 port is going to run a lot better on AMD hardware.

Every single recent game is showing AMD performing better.

Yeah, congrats on your 480 competing with a 2 year old mid-grade card.

By your logic a 750ti is a bad card because it competed with last generations mid range cards.

A 970 is a step above. The 960 would be its last gen counterpart.

The Witcher franchise is incredibly popular and runs better with nVidia hardware.

Why are there so many pics of those floating around when it's actually impossible to buy one? Did Nvidia make a few just for reviewers?

Let them fell for the nvidia meme anon, don't bother.
They will cry when they cards stopped being supported in 2 years while our AMD cards gets stronger over time.

Even then it's akin to Skyrim where it needs plenty of RAM and power behind it too.

Buying old cards to 'future-proof' is retarded anyway.

Is Microsoft 10 really that bad? Is it the botnet aspect? I ask because I want DX12, but I don't really want a OS that is going to be obtrusive with ads for things I don't care about in my start menu or when I turn it on.

The privacy intrusion is a bit bad, but I use Chrome and don't encrypt any data, so I don't really think I'm one to complain about privacy intrusions unless they're shoved in my face.

Is this what people actually do? It must suck to be poor and have to settle for archaic hardware..
>>
>>55436840

the 750ti is a bad card. it was only used by the extremely poor or OEMs.

>>55436863

yes. it's disengenuous as fuck too because the reference 970 has locked voltage and a hard limit on boost clock to around 1390mhz. most 970s can do 1500-1550mhz once OCed.

You can disable most, if not all of that during install and with a few reg edits you can disable telemetry. Sure, they may still grab some data but if you're using chrome/smartphone it really doesn't make a difference now does it? I upgraded a while ago, disable everything and have had zero issues.

it does if you're an AMD poor. no igpus in the fx 83xx lineup :^)

>>

>-You are paying $40 more

you mean less. all the 480s that are currently in stock are >$300. meanwhile people can find good secondhand cards from nvidia and amd that outperform a 480 for less money.

the 480 is just another example of failure and squandered chances by AMD. if it was 10-20% faster out of the box and didn't kill motherboards the card might have been newsworthy.

It still is within 2fps on a heavily biased nvidia game. What are you trying to prove?
>>

>It still is within 2fps on a heavily biased nvidia game.

within 2fps against a reference 970. the 480 and 390 are clocked to nearly their limit out of the box. a 970 can gain ~30% performance from a good OC.

Fair enough, >>55436895 definitely produced a result well outside the norm, but HardOCP makes little effort to conceal their contempt for AMD and it's a bad move citing them when calling someone else out for bias, cherry-picking, or shilling.

Buy the aftermarket 8 pin. This isn't nearly as much of an issue anymore. Even the reference POO edition will be getting a tweak to fix that problem.

I play 1366*768 and AMD is more expansive in my country.

Also DX12 is a win10 marketing scheme.

Why are people still spreading this?

There was some video where some German guy tested drawing something like 2x the power this card draws through a PCI slot on an old motherboard and it was perfectly fine. He got to the point where he couldn't even put any more power through it because he reached the limits of his equipment, and the board wasn't damaged in any way.

Stop fear mongering.
>>
>>55438187
>>>55436682Why are people still spreading this?

Because it's a very real problem, only shills claim otherwise.
>>
>>55438187
If it's not an issue why the panic from AMD to get a fix out there?

Here's the video I was talking about:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yNMJ5U5ZcXk

If you can't understand German some people on reddit who can summarised the video:

>I don't know anything about electronics etc, so I can't tell you how valid his methods are, but he claims to be putting at least 2.5 times the load on the PCIe-slot of his ancient pentium 4 motherboard under the worst possible conditions (his connector is thinner than that of an actual graphics card so there's less pressure etc) but the loss in power at the connector is so low that it doesn't even get warm or anything. Iirc he says something about 300 milliwatts or so.

>He's measuring the losses. The maximum heat that gets generated in the slot is 200 mW. that's nothing compared to the heat radiated from the graphics card. Even if he is running it at 5 amperes it doesnt get hotter than 264 mW. And that is with bad contact because his adapter is thinner than a GPU and not gold plated etc.

So it literally does no damage, even at 2.5x the load under worse conditions. Now either show me your proof as to where exceeding PCI specifications kills the board, or stop spreading false info. AMD are probably only making a patch because they realised the card performs better undervolted, and to shut up all the uninformed shills spreading false info.
